Haleon CEO warns staff of 'difficult choices' ahead after sales miss, memo says.

Haleon CEO warns staff of 'difficult choices' ahead after sales miss, memo says. By Thomson Reuters Oct 29, 2026 | 6:28 AM By Richa Naidu LONDON, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Haleon CEO Brian McNamara warned staff on Thursday that the British maker of Sensodyne toothpaste and Beechams cold medicines faced "difficult choices" in coming months, according to a memo seen by Reuters, after the group cut its annual revenue growth outlook. Haleon, which also makes Advil painkillers, earlier posted third-quarter revenue that missed forecasts and reported weaker sales in key market China, knocking its shares down 15% to the lowest since early 2024. "We'll need to make some difficult choices in the months ahead about where we focus our investment," McNamara wrote in the memo. "Not all decisions will be easy, but they will be necessary to build a stronger, more sustainable business." McNamara did not give further details in the memo about what the tough decisions would relate to. Haleon declined to comment. McNamara told staff in the memo that the company needed to speed up innovation, sharpen commercial execution and improve returns on its advertising and promotional spending. "We need to improve our performance. What we need from everyone is ownership, accountability, and a relentless focus on execution and results," he said. "Our overall rate of growth and our competitiveness are not where they need to be." Haleon, which was spun out of GlaxoSmithKline in 2022, said it now expects full-year organic or self-generated revenue growth of around 2.5%, against a previous forecast of 3% to 5%. Analysts had been expecting 3.2% in a company-compiled poll. (Reporting by Richa Naidu; Editing by Adam Jourdan and David Holmes)

Vaccines sales fell 2% on Shingrix destocking in China. Research and development spending rose 22%. GSK has started 18 phase III studies this year and expects four more. GSK shares slide as pipeline doubts and weak vaccine sales offset $11.3B sales beat

GSK shares fell about 4% on October 28 despite a third-quarter sales and profit beat, as investors focused on pipeline doubts and weak vaccine sales, including shingles shot Shingrix. The stock fell as much as 7.3% earlier in the day. Core profit was 54.6 pence per share on turnover of £8.89 billion, against expectations of 50.4 pence and £8.84 billion. Specialty medicines for HIV, respiratory conditions and cancer rose 15%, but sales of new asthma drug Exdensur and vaccines missed forecasts. Chief executive officer Luke Miels is running a £1.9 billion ($2.5 billion) cost-savings plan to fund drug development ahead of patent losses. Market forecasts for 2031 sales of £36.64 billion trail GSK's target of more than £40 billion. GSK kept its annual outlook and took a £328 million restructuring charge in the quarter.

GSK (NYSE:GSK) shares gap down - should you Sell? Posted by Don Miller on Oct 28th, 2026 GSK PLC Sponsored ADR (NYSE:GSK - Get Free Report) shares gapped down prior to trading on Wednesday. The stock had previously closed at $50.94, but opened at $47.65. GSK shares last traded at $48.7640, with a volume of 5,235,829 shares. GSK news summary. Here are the key news stories impacting GSK this week: * Third-quarter results exceeded expectations. Adjusted earnings were reported at approximately $1.45-$1.47 per share, ahead of consensus estimates near $1.33-$1.40, while revenue of roughly $11.8 billion also topped forecasts. GSK maintained its full-year targets. * Specialty medicines continued to grow. HIV, oncology and respiratory products delivered strong or double-digit growth, offsetting weakness in vaccines and broadly flat general-medicine sales. The performance supports management's strategy of emphasizing higher-growth specialty drugs. * Pipeline activity could improve future growth. GSK expects to expand its cancer-drug trial portfolio significantly next year following recent dealmaking, while its newly approved Hibsago hepatitis B vaccine is preparing for a focused U.S. launch. * Management also highlighted efforts to improve transparency around clinical-trial results, potentially helping investor confidence over time, although the near-term financial impact is unclear. * Vaccine sales missed expectations and declined amid weaker adult demand. This was the primary reason the earnings beat failed to satisfy investors, particularly as vaccines remain an important part of GSK's portfolio. * Investors are also concerned about mounting costs and doubts over the pipeline's ability to replace slowing vaccine revenue, increasing pressure on management to demonstrate sustained growth. GSK shares dive as weaker sales and mounting costs unnerve investors.

GSK shares dive as weaker sales and mounting costs unnerve investors. 4 hours ago Shares in GSK slid on Wednesday despite the UK drugmaker reporting better-than-expected financial results, as investors were unnerved by weaker vaccine sales, restructuring charges and its overall outlook. Britain's second-biggest pharmaceutical company reported a 19% decline in pre-tax profit to £1.9bn in the July to September quarter and £318m of restructuring charges, with more to come. Shares dived as much as 7% at one point on Wednesday, and despite later paring back to a 5.5% drop, it remained the biggest faller on the FTSE 100 index of blue-chip businesses. Luke Miels, who took over from Emma Walmsley as chief executive of GSK in January, has announced a number of acquisitions, including a £7.9bn US cancer specialist, and a major cost saving programme in July to speed up drug development. GSK said turnover in the third quarter rose 5% at constant currency rates to £8.9bn, thanks to strong sales of its HIV, cancer and lupus medications. However, vaccine sales dipped 2% to £2.6bn, with sharp declines for the shingles shot Shingrix, down 5%, and the RSV vaccine Arexvy, down 24%, while sales of meningitis vaccines rose 12%. Investors are also worried about the looming patent cliff for its blockbuster HIV drug dolutegravir. It will lose patent protection towards the end of the decade, which means other drugmakers can make cheaper, generic versions. The company has set a goal of generating more than £40bn in total annual revenue by 2031 as it rebuilds its cancer business. Miels said GSK was slightly ahead on its three-year cost reduction plan to save £1.9bn a year, which involves simplifying operations to invest more in research & development (R&D). The restructuring will cost the company £2.4bn, and most of these charges will come this year and next. The impact on the UK is "relatively limited," Miels said, with some job cuts at its headquarters in central London, affecting support roles. "You never want headquarters to be too big; I want people on the bench in the lab." GSK is also reorganising its vaccine business in Belgium, with increased use of digital tools and automation expected to lead to about 1,200 job losses. The country will continue to produce the bulk of its vaccines, it said. GSK had nearly 67,000 employees globally at the end of last year, according to its annual report. GSK stuck to its annual forecasts, with R&D spending set to grow faster than sales. It expects to begin 22 late-stage studies of new medications by the end of the year, 18 of which are already under way, with a focus on specialty medicines and vaccines. Miels said that Shingrix had the "potential to grow next year," describing it as "a remarkable product". He pointed to two large studies of the vaccine to assess the reduction of dementia risk, as well as its effects on major adverse cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes, with the first data available in 2029 and 2027 respectively. Both studies could be "transformative" for the shingles vaccine, he added. Britain's high street chemists have reported a rise in demand for the shingles vaccine after studies showed a correlation with a reduced risk of dementia, with the strongest effects in women. "We've got a lot of studies that show a correlation. We're trying to demonstrate causation," Miels said.
