Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • A one-year certificate from a college or accredited technical Medical Assisting program, or 1 to 3 months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited school is required.
  • At least 1 or 2 years of work experience in a medical clinic setting is required; Federally Qualified Health Center experience is a plus.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Bilingual language skills are required, with Spanish/English bilingual ability preferred.
  • The candidate must be able to work flexible hours, including the stated weekday schedule and evening-hours flexibility as needed.
  • Strong computer experience with Microsoft Office is required.
  • The candidate must provide customer service to patients and outside customers in person and by phone.
  • The candidate must be able to multitask and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • The candidate must fulfill immunization and fit-for-duty regulatory requirements.
  • The candidate must be able to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced medical environment.
Responsibilities
  • Support and closely coordinate Medical and Behavioral Health services within the pod care team.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information in patient charts when performing Medical Assisting duties.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and disinfect operatories according to department policy and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
  • Inventory and order medical supplies and materials.
  • Operate electrocardiograph equipment and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests, or contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests.
  • Give injections or treatments and perform routine laboratory tests when performing Medical Assisting duties.
  • Enter data into the computer to maintain office and patient records.
  • Follow universal precautions and Occupational Safety and Health Administration Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous Materials standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality according to department policy and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act guidelines.
  • Check eligibility, verify demographics, assist patients with required paperwork, and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Provide patients with current information about community resources addressing transportation, housing, food access, and other social determinants of health.
  • Use approved screening tools for common behavioral health and substance abuse disorders and provide information about available resources.
  • Assist behavioral health providers with warm handoffs.
  • Participate in scheduled caseload consultations with the care team, including Primary Care, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and/or psychiatrists.
  • Facilitate patient engagement and follow-up in care.
  • Request prior authorizations and Treatment Authorization Requests sent by the pharmacy so patients receive ordered medications promptly.
  • Document encounters in the electronic medical records system for sharing with primary care providers, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and/or psychiatrists.
  • Facilitate referrals for clinically indicated internal and external services, including social services, mental health specialty care, and substance abuse treatment.
  • Respond appropriately to electronic mail and tasks using the electronic medical health record.
  • Assign primary care providers and needed health maintenance screenings.
  • Follow up on and track no-shows for first appointments.
  • Attend required meetings, training, and educational programs.
  • Perform Medical Assistant duties and other related work when staff support is needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Federally Qualified Health Center experience.
  • Epic Electronic Health Records experience.
  • Spanish/English bilingual ability.
