Scaleway launches two availability zones for Italy cloud region.

Scaleway launches two availability zones for Italy cloud region. Brings total to three AZs October 15, 2026 European cloud provider Scaleway has brought two availability zones (AZs) online for its Italy cloud region. The cloud region originally opened in March 2026, with just one AZ located in the Settimo Milanese area of Milan. The two new zones are in separate data centers located in Basiglio and Milan. The company said in its announcement: "With three geographically separate and independent zones, Milan becomes a fully fledged cloud region, offering enterprise-grade resilience." Elsewhere, Scaleway is planning to expand its capacity across Europe in 2027. This will include the opening of three availability zones in Stockholm, Sweden, and three additional AZs in Frankfurt, Germany. The company also has operating regions in France, Poland, and the Netherlands. The expansion plans were announced by Scaleway during its AI-Pulse 2026 event. Also revealed at the event was the company's GPU capacity launches in both Sweden and Copenhagen. With those new GPU deployments, the company now has AI capacity in Paris, Copenhagen, and Stockholm, and the company says this will eventually "represent tens of thousands of GPUs, tens of exaflops of computing power and tens of megawatts of capacity." Earlier this year, Scaleway announced it was working with VSORA and ZML on the development of a new European AI inference offering based on the Jotunn8 processor. VSORA is a French semiconductor company specializing in AI inference processors, and the Jotunn8 processor is currently in manufacturing. The chips, when deployed in a formation of eight within the YMIR inference server, offer 25.6 petaflops of compute with 2.3TB of memory and a TDP of 9kW. More in cloud & hyperscale.

Giga Computing, a GIGABYTE subsidiary, partners with Scaleway to strengthen European sovereign cloud footprint

Giga Computing, a GIGABYTE subsidiary, partners with Scaleway to strengthen European sovereign cloud footprint * 2026.10.14 * 13:15 * Commercial Times Weng Yulan GIGABYTE (2376) subsidiary Giga Computing Technology today (14th) announced a partnership with Scaleway to jointly unveil an AI and cloud platform using AMD Instinct GPUs at the ai-PULSE exhibition in Paris, France. Giga Computing is supplying the core servers for the computing infrastructure as part of an integrated ecosystem covering compute, storage, and liquid cooling, combining with Scaleway's sovereign cloud services to provide organizations of all kinds with the ability to run sensitive and critical workloads. Through this collaboration, Giga Computing further lays the foundation for entering the European sovereign cloud market and, with liquid-cooled high-density AI server products as its niche, helps local CSPs (cloud service providers) accelerate the transition from deployment to production. Scaleway is building large-scale AI infrastructure in Europe, enabling enterprises, research institutions, and AI developers to use high-performance cloud services within EU data centers. The AMD Instinct MI355X GPU adds an accelerator option to Scaleway's AI cloud portfolio, allowing customers to train, fine-tune, and deploy large models on an open software stack while ensuring data and workloads remain within EU jurisdiction. Giga Computing provides the computing infrastructure powering Scaleway's AMD Instinct AI and cloud services. This multi-rack deployment is centered on GIGABYTE G4L3-ZX1-LAT4 DLC servers, each equipped with 8 AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs and 2 AMD EPYC 9005 CPUs, delivering the memory capacity and bandwidth required for large model training and high-throughput inference. However, delivering AI infrastructure at scale requires far more than GPU compute capability. Scaleway has integrated a complete partner ecosystem spanning compute, storage, and cooling. In addition to Giga Computing's planning for GPU servers, rack configuration, power, and networking, this includes Bull's capabilities in cluster testing and deployment, the data platform provided by VAST Data, and Motul's liquid cooling solutions. Giga Computing has deep AI server expertise in large-scale deployments, backed by GIGABYTE's manufacturing and validation capabilities. By integrating high-density GPU platforms with the management software and liquid cooling solutions required by modern data centers, Giga Computing helps Scaleway's GPU capacity grow in step with customer demand. Scaleway COO Albane Bruyas said, "We are pleased to work with Giga Computing to expand our AI infrastructure. Giga Computing in particular has extensive deployment experience in high-density liquid-cooled servers. Scaleway also has a clear goal: to provide customers with the computing capacity they need while building infrastructure that operates efficiently and continues to scale with customers' ambitions." Giga Computing General Manager Hou Chih-jen noted that Scaleway's AMD Instinct GPU service fully demonstrates the importance of integrating high-performance computing, efficient cooling, and a well-rounded infrastructure ecosystem to meet the needs of scaled sovereign AI deployments. In the future, Giga Computing also hopes to continue supporting Scaleway in expanding AI computing capacity for its European customers, while continuing to work with cloud service providers and technology partners to deliver liquid-cooled high-density AI infrastructure, helping customers move faster from deployment to production.

Iliad's Scaleway bangs the digital sovereignty drum.

Iliad's Scaleway bangs the digital sovereignty drum. Oct 14, 2026 Scaleway CEO Damien Lucas outlines the company's expansion plans. * Iliad's cloud and AI services unit is expanding to meet demand from European customers * It is deploying new GPU clusters in Sweden and Denmark, and launching new cloud zones across the region * The moves are all part of its plan to 'develop, deploy and run AI' in Europe and tap the growing demand for digital sovereign services Scaleway, the cloud and AI unit of European telco Iliad Group, is investing in new infrastructure deployments in Scandinavia, expanding its compute capacity and adding to its technology partnerships as it positions itself to be a key provider of digital sovereign cloud and AI services in Europe. The company has a very clear aspiration: To deliver what it calls "technological autonomy" to European enterprises so they have "the ability to choose, develop and operate technologies from Europe". And, according to research firm IDC, there is growing demand for digital sovereign services in Europe. The ambition isn't new. Backed by the vision of telecom and tech entrepreneur Xavier Niel, Iliad - arguably the most successful alternative telco in Europe - has been investing in its cloud and AI infrastructure and platforms for years. It committed investments totalling €3bn into AI-dedicated infrastructure and platforms via its datacentre division OpCore, a joint venture with InfraVia, and Scaleway, which has been busy over the past year. In 2025, Scaleway formed the AION European AI consortium to accelerate sovereign service and infrastructure developments, and launch a French bid to be part of the European Union's AI Gigafactories initiative. And it has been brokering other deals, such as this one with Airbus and this one with Tele2, as well as multiple partnerships that have already put it at the heart of Europe's digital sovereign services sector. Now Scaleway has shifted up a gear, with news that it is to spread its wings and bulk up as it aims to "give European businesses the infrastructure, performance and technological freedom they need to develop, deploy and run AI applications from Europe." Bulking up Scaleway is opening two new 'Availability Zones (AZs)' in Milan, bringing the total to three in its first Italian cloud region. "With three geographically separate and independent zones, Milan becomes a fully fledged cloud region, offering enterprise-grade resilience," it noted. Then, in 2027, Scaleway will open three Availability Zones in Stockholm, Sweden, and three additional zones in Frankfurt, Germany. At the same time it will invest in "additional computing capacity through the development of GPU Zones, dedicated infrastructure designed to support large-scale AI model training and inference." One of these will be a new cluster of several thousand Nvidia B300 GPUs in Copenhagen, Denmark. Scaleway CEO Damien Lucas noted: "Access to high-performance AI computing is becoming a strategic priority for European organisations, and they increasingly want that capacity delivered by providers they can trust. With our new GPU Zone in Copenhagen, we're responding to that demand by bringing the latest Nvidia technologies closer to customers, while staying true to our commitment to European technological independence." Another will involve the deployment in Stockholm of an AI supercomputer based on a cluster of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs, which Scaleway claims will be "one of the first computing infrastructures of its kind from a European cloud provider". Scaleway added: "With GPU Zones in Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm, Scaleway is building an infrastructure that will eventually represent tens of thousands of GPUs, tens of exaflops of computing power and tens of megawatts of capacity... These developments are part of a broader industrial ambition, notably reflected in Scaleway and Iliad Group's participation in the European AI Gigafactory project." Scaleway has also expanded its AI model catalogue to more than 40, "enabling businesses to choose the technologies best suited to their needs," is working with French AI infrastructure firms VSORA and ZML to develop a new European AI inference offering based on VSORA's Jotunn8 processor, and has struck a partnership with French startup Alatyr to explore the development of space-based datacentre infrastructure. And in 2027, it plans to launch its Unified Computing Service, "a new approach that will allow developers to run their programs across CPU, GPU and quantum computing resources without having to manage the underlying infrastructure". The service will be supported in part by Qall, "an open-source toolkit to which Scaleway contributes, designed to simplify workload execution across different computing architectures". Scaleway, with the support of the Iliad Group, clearly believes there is an opportunity to generate new business opportunities by developing European-hosted and developed technology and services to meet the sovereignty demands of the region's governments and enterprises, but is there any real chance of competing with the US hyperscalers, all of which have infrastructure and resources embedded in Europe and have far greater scale and resources? This is one of the key questions that will be addressed at the Digital Sovereignty Forum in London on 2 December. - Ray Le Maistre, Editorial Director, TelecomTV Protecting the intelligent network: Security for SMO, RAN and beyond.
