Requirements
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in construction engineering and inspection for transportation projects; direct field experience as a contractor or materials-testing technician may substitute on a case-by-case basis.
  • Thorough knowledge of Department of Transportation specifications and standards, with willingness to study and advance relevant knowledge outside of work.
  • Functional computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to complete advanced inspector certification courses, such as Department of Transportation classes in hot-mix asphalt and American Concrete Institute concrete sampling and testing.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to meet company motor vehicle record standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Ability to perform standard mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work day or night shifts and flexible schedules as required by project needs.
  • Ability to accept assignments requiring extended travel to perform inspection tasks and attend project meetings.
Responsibilities
  • Perform field inspection and oversight of construction activities under the review and direction of the project manager.
  • Inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Provide recommendations to the client regarding work progress and challenges encountered.
  • Use AASHTOWare and SiteManager sufficiently to ensure contract compliance.
  • Maintain daily inspection reports and detailed records of project progress.
  • Review contract documents to verify compliance with governmental regulations and project requirements.
  • Assist with coordinating materials sampling and testing and verify that sufficient testing has been performed.
  • Verify the accuracy of payment requests and invoicing for completed work.
  • Coordinate with contractor staff and communicate with clients, contractors, and other parties.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to help accomplish the company's strategic goals.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with AASHTOWare and SiteManager software.
  • Experience with Primavera and other scheduling software.
  • Field testing certifications through state Departments of Transportation and/or the American Concrete Institute.

Peak Rock Capital sells SAM to New Mountain Capital after doubling revenue

Peak Rock Capital has sold SAM Companies, a geospatial and inspection services provider for utilities and critical infrastructure, to New Mountain Capital. Financial terms were not disclosed. Under Peak Rock's ownership since 2021, SAM more than doubled revenue, completed 19 acquisitions, and expanded from its original footprint to add 25 offices. The company now serves 20 of the top 25 US utilities, providing end-to-end geospatial intelligence services across the critical infrastructure lifecycle. SAM, founded in 1994 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, uses advanced scientific methods to capture and analyse infrastructure data, supporting grid modernisation and AI-driven infrastructure investment.
