Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalency certificate is required.
- At least 3 years of experience working as a licensed electrician is required.
- Medium-voltage electrical experience, including switching and operations, is required.
- A journeyman or master electrician license is preferred.
- Experience with switching and operations on systems up to 161 kV, including substations, industrial settings, or utilities, is preferred.
- Experience with medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, and distribution in substations, industrial plants, or data centers is preferred.
- A basic understanding of electrical principles, including AC/DC circuits and safety standards, is preferred.
- Ability to read prints and drawings and use common test tools is preferred.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools and ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting more than 50 pounds and working at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather, is preferred.
- Knowledge of reading drawings, manuals, and one-line diagrams is preferred.
- Ability to safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and with medium- and high-voltage equipment is required; a pre-employment questionnaire and/or physical may be required.
- Willingness to work on-site in Memphis, Tennessee, is required.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Ability to perform duties involving standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting the upper body, working in cramped positions, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working on ladders or lifts at elevated heights is required.
- Ability to work in environments involving fumes, odors, noise, heat, cold, and rain is required.
- Ability to work variable schedules, including frequent overtime and weekend support, is required.
Responsibilities
- Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair in-service substation and campus electrical equipment, including breakers, transformers, switches, relays, buswork, control systems, and station batteries.
- Perform medium-voltage switching and operations up to 161 kV by writing or following switching orders, isolating and de-energizing equipment, applying grounds, verifying zero energy, and restoring equipment to service.
- Perform routine maintenance on medium- and high-voltage operating systems, including inspections, lubrication, oil-level checks, heater and light checks, and connection checks.
- Respond to outages, faults, alarms, and call-outs; restore service and document the incident.
- Conduct electrical testing on in-service equipment using voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, and insulation meggers, and assist with relay, transformer, and circuit-breaker tests.
- Read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and switching orders.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control issues on operating plant equipment.
- Follow lockout/tagout, grounding, clearance procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Coordinate switching and clearances with operators, engineers, and utility crews during planned and emergency outages.
- Document work performed, test results, and observations, and keep operating records current.
- Operate company vehicles and specialized equipment; inspect and store personal protective equipment.
- Perform similar or less-skilled incidental duties as assigned.
