Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of general weightlifting and health and wellness concepts and the ability to demonstrate use of wellness-related equipment.
  • Must be knowledgeable about fitness-related issues including aerobic versus anaerobic exercise, nutrition, benefits of exercise, injury prevention, and The Coach Approach.
  • Must obtain and maintain full access to Y-Exchange, YLINK, and the Metro Atlanta YMCA Workday account.
  • Must obtain YMCA/ACE online certification and supplemental courses required by Y-USA and Y-Metro Atlanta within 60 days of hire date.
  • Must maintain certifications by uploading continuing education credits via Y-Exchange prior to the date of expiration.
  • Must possess current Basic Life Support certification and renew it every two years before expiration, with updated licenses uploaded via Y-Exchange.
  • Must possess the visual and cognitive abilities needed to use computer-based and written materials to administer job-related responsibilities.
  • Must possess strong human-relations skills and be able to facilitate member interaction and socialization.
  • Working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and database management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and solve problems.
  • Effective time-management skills.
  • Strong customer-service skills and a personal commitment to service and hospitality.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, including a criminal-record check, drug screening, and motor-vehicle-record check.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor the wellness-center floor, assist members as needed, and enforce wellness-center policies.
  • Clean, maintain, and check equipment continuously and after member use, and report repair needs under the supervisor's direction.
  • Apply Metro Atlanta YMCA risk and safety guidelines, best practices, and branch emergency procedures.
  • Promote, monitor, and evaluate wellness programs to ensure they run smoothly and provide a high level of service to participants.
  • Stay updated on current issues regarding wellness programs.
  • Complete the YUSA foundational Health and Wellness courses within 60 days of hire: Orientation to Healthy Living, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member Health and Wellness, and Wellness Center at the Y.
  • Complete Basic Life Support training within 60 days of hire.
  • Maintain national and YUSA wellness certifications by completing 10 continuing education credits every two years.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support certification and renew it every two years.
  • Secure an approved substitute coach in a timely manner when unable to work an assigned shift.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings, including facility or equipment orientations, before working on the wellness floor.
  • Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.
  • Maintain and report incident and accident paperwork.

The Atlanta Voice celebrates 60 years with a Midday Open House of impact & inspiration. The Atlanta Voice opened its doors to the community for a joyful Midday Open House, marking six decades of storytelling, advocacy, and community connection. The celebration was more than an anniversary - it was a vibrant reflection of the publication's mission to inform, uplift, and empower Metro Atlanta. Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed a lively drop-in experience that blended nostalgia with forward-thinking energy. From guided peeks into current initiatives to sneak previews of what's launching next, visitors got a firsthand look at how The Atlanta Voice continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. WAREhouse Studio buzzed with conversation as longtime supporters, community partners, and new friends mingled with The Atlanta Voice staff. Laughter and stories filled the air as attendees shared memories of the publication's impact and envisioned the next 60 years together. Light bites, sweet treats, and refreshing drinks kept the celebration flowing, with a special thank you to its incredible vendors - 360 Photo Booth Eventz, World Renowned Catering, Courtney's Creations of Atlanta, and Jailan Jagne - for adding flavor, fun, and flair to the day. "This milestone isn't just about where we've been - it's about where we're headed," said Publisher Janis Ware. "The Atlanta Voice has always been about amplifying the voices of our community, and that mission continues stronger than ever." The Atlanta Voice were deeply honored to welcome Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, who stopped by to share reflections and gratitude for The Atlanta Voice's legacy of truth-telling and community service. His words inspired the crowd and reminded everyone how local journalism continues to shape the future of its city. The Atlanta Voice also extend heartfelt thanks to Fulton County Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington Jr., who presented an official proclamation recognizing The Atlanta Voice's 60 years of excellence and enduring service to Metro Atlanta.
