Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program is required.
  • For CMA II, six months of Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant experience is required.
  • Certification through an approved body as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Ability to perform the physical functions of the role, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, reaching, using both hands and legs, repetitive motions, respirator qualification, maintaining corrected 20/40 vision, working in a latex-safe indoor environment, and lifting or carrying objects weighing approximately 50 pounds unassisted.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the examination and treatment of patients under physician direction.
  • Interview patients and measure and record vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
  • Calibrate, clean, and perform scheduled maintenance of clinical and laboratory equipment, with required documentation.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information; document test and examination results.
  • Communicate the plan of care to patients and develop patient education materials when necessary.
  • Maintain examination room supplies, instruments, and the cleanliness of the patient care environment.
  • Maintain timely patient flow and assist with appointment and referral scheduling based on urgency and availability.
  • Screen patients for appropriate information and provide diagnosis- and treatment-related education.
  • Observe, record, and report patients' physical and psychosocial conditions and reactions to medications and treatments.
  • Respond to and triage phone calls and call in physician-ordered prescriptions or other orders as appropriate.
  • Instruct patients regarding physician-ordered treatment or medication.
  • Monitor and distribute medications, including samples and controlled substances.
  • Triage patients and prepare them for physician examinations and procedures.
  • Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as necessary.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples and performance of tests.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of patient care experience is preferred for CMA I.
