Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • The employee must be able to communicate professionally and courteously with patients and clinic staff.
  • The employee must be able to sit for at least an hour at a time and stand and walk for up to 20 minutes at a time.
  • The employee must be able to bend, stoop, reach, squat, kneel, and sit on the floor as required by patient care and clinical procedures.
  • The employee must be able to lift and maneuver medical products, supplies, equipment, radiograph sensors, casting materials, instrument trays, and other items, including occasional lifting up to 30 pounds and maneuvering durable medical equipment boxes weighing over 50 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to utilize a computer and keyboard for extended periods and type and communicate verbally with patients and coworkers.
  • The employee must be able to assist patients in and out of treatment chairs, including elderly, incapacitated, frail, and wheelchair-bound patients, with support from other staff members.
  • The employee must be able to maintain concentration and dexterity while handling medications, instruments, radiograph equipment, patient records, and clinical procedures.
  • The employee must comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Order, sort, store, and replenish medical supplies and restock examination rooms.
  • Clean examination areas, set up instruments and equipment, and clean the sterilizer.
  • Greet patients, answer office phones, perform data entry, schedule appointments, assist front-office staff when needed, and perform manual insurance verifications.
  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical history in Epic.
  • Escort patients to and from examination rooms.
  • Schedule surgeries by coordinating with surgical centers, verifying times with patients, and preparing charts, pre-admission forms, and consent forms.
  • Assist the physician with procedures, including preparing sterile trays, passing medications, cutting sutures, performing saline flushes, retrieving specimens, and applying bandages.
  • Draw and deliver medications such as lidocaine, marcaine, and cantharone to treatment rooms as directed by the physician.
  • Administer injections as directed by the physician.
  • Cast for orthotics and apply below-knee casts, low-dye strapping, and Unna boots.
  • Perform nail debridement and callus and corn debridement under physician supervision.
  • Perform dressing changes and radiographs, including positioning patients' feet and handling the digital radiograph sensor.
  • Document phone calls, return patient messages, complete in-baskets, and update logs.
  • Assist with patient transfers, including moving limbs and removing and replacing shoes and boots.
  • Process instruments by rinsing, cleansing, packaging, and sterilizing them in the counter sterilizer.
  • Maintain back-office inventory and replenish supplies and equipment.
  • Clean treatment chairs, counters, cabinets, and other touched surfaces after patient visits; remove trash and transport it to the on-site dumpster.
  • Comply with organizational policies and procedures, the code of conduct, compliance training, and timely reporting requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience is preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification is preferred.
  • Experience with Epic is preferred.
