About the Company

Watu

Asset-financing BNPL for African mobility

Watu is an asset-financing fintech in Africa that offers buy-now-pay-later loans to people without formal credit to buy income-generating assets. Its main products finance two- and three-wheelers (boda bodas and tuk-tuks) and include bundles like GPS tracking, insurance, and logbook transfer, with repayments often made via mobile money; revenue comes from loan interest and fees. It also offers smartphone financing (Watu Simu) and education loans (Watu Shule) to diversify its portfolio. The company pursues mass-market financial inclusion and green mobility by expanding into EV financing and partnerships for infrastructure, aiming to increase access to credit and affordable, sustainable transportation across multiple African countries.
