- Completion of a New York State-accredited Medical Assistant program.
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Current in-person American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy, electronic health record systems, clinical procedures, and aseptic technique is required.
- Medical Assistants must not diagnose, treat, triage, administer medications or injections, interpret test results, perform imaging, or assist in surgery, in accordance with New York State regulations.
- Prepare examination rooms and equipment, and maintain supplies, medications, and vaccines.
- Greet, identify, and escort patients, and explain the Medical Assistant’s role and procedures.
- Collect and document patient data, including vital signs, medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
- Perform pre-visit planning and identify gaps in care.
- Assist providers with in-office procedures and diagnostic testing, including electrocardiograms and laboratory collection.
- Collect, process, and document laboratory specimens, and maintain quality-control logs.
- Monitor electronic health record messages, health reminders, and diagnostic testing according to provider direction.
- Provide age-appropriate patient education and coordinate referrals, procedures, and prior authorizations.
- Uphold infection-control, safety, and aseptic techniques.
- Support efficient patient flow and clinical operations.
- Maintain equipment, examination rooms, and supply inventory.
- Ensure proper disposal of biohazardous and infectious waste.
- Participate in team huddles, staff meetings, and performance-improvement initiatives.
- Assist with onboarding and orientation of new staff.
- Clean and reset examination rooms.
- Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived laboratory testing according to New York State and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
- Adhere to infection-control, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Perform other assigned duties.
- National Medical Assistant certification is preferred.
