- Completion of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor.
- Current licensure as a registered nurse and as an advanced practice nurse in the State of Tennessee.
- Certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Basic Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications.
- Proficiency in current practices and techniques in the specific area of clinical expertise, demonstrated through successful completion of an accredited anesthesia program.
- Knowledge and ability to demonstrate nursing, anesthesia, and clinical skills according to current hospital policies and procedures, acquired through a three-month initial probationary period.
- Knowledge and ability to provide care for surgical or procedural patients before, during, and after operations.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the anesthesia needs of patients undergoing obstetrical, surgical, or invasive procedures.
- Work under the leadership of the Lead Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and make decisions requiring expert clinical judgment in collaboration with physicians, patients, patient families, and other departments.
- Maintain a positive work environment and contribute to the overall team effort of the department and hospital.
- Greet guests according to the hospital's Guest Excellence principles.
- Follow practice guidelines established by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and assemble and check all required equipment before the patient's arrival in the surgical suite.
- Interview patients before procedures regarding pertinent health and prior anesthesia history and perform a physical assessment as indicated.
- Review health assessment data and medication history for potential interactions with anesthetic agents and assign the American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification.
- Plan the method and selection of anesthetic agents based on the pre-anesthesia assessment and review the plan with the patient and anesthesiologist or supervising physician as necessary.
- Review the chart for completeness and new data and document accurately in the electronic medical record throughout the case.
- Communicate with the anesthesiologist, supervising physician, or surgeon regarding existing or potential problems associated with or encountered during anesthesia.
- Monitor pre-induction and intraoperative vital signs, including cardiac and respiratory parameters.
- Administer general, spinal, epidural, and other regional anesthesia as appropriate.
- Modify anesthesia levels and drug delivery based on the patient's status and procedural progress and notify the surgeon, operating room team, and anesthesiologist or supervising physician of changes in patient status.
- Monitor vital functions during postoperative transfer of care and provide a detailed report to the receiving nurse upon arrival in the post-anesthesia care unit, intensive care unit, or other receiving area.
- Reassess patients within 48 hours postoperatively for anesthesia-related complications in accordance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services standards.
- Perform related responsibilities as required or directed.
- Maintain clinical competence through continuing education and assume responsibility for continued professional growth.

Dyersburg Hospital is now offering the Altaviva(TM) implant, an innovative therapy designed to help patients regain control and confidence. Unlike medications or injections that target the bladder muscles, the Altaviva(TM) implant works by stimulating the tibial nerve near the ankle. This gentle stimulation helps restore communication between the bladder and brain, which may reduce urgency and leakage. The therapy is designed to fit seamlessly into daily life. How It Works A small device is placed just under the skin near the ankle during a minimally invasive outpatient procedure. The implant sends gentle electrical pulses to the tibial nerve. Wolfelt. The series will begin on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with an evening community event titled Tending to Your Broken Heart: Hope for Your Healing.
