Essential Utilities reports Q2 adjusted EPS of $0.38, reaffirms 5–7% annual growth target

Essential Utilities reported second-quarter 2026 GAAP earnings of $0.37 per share, down from $0.38 the previous year. Excluding merger-related expenses, adjusted earnings were $0.38 per share. Chairman Chris Franklin said the company remains confident it can achieve its target of 5% to 7% annual earnings-per-share growth, using 2024 adjusted earnings of $1.97 per share as the baseline. Earnings benefited from increased regulatory recoveries and water volumes but were offset by lower gas volumes, higher operating expenses, and increased depreciation and interest costs. Operating and maintenance expenses rose $5.1 million, or 3.5%, primarily due to higher employee-related costs. Essential has received regulatory approvals for its planned merger with American Water in Kentucky, Ohio and Virginia. The transaction is expected to close during the first quarter of 2027.
