Requirements
  • High school education.
  • One year of medical or clinical assistant experience in a healthcare facility.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential.
  • Basic Life Support or cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  • Previous electronic health record experience.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
Responsibilities
  • Support physicians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants, and nurses in delivering medical care and related administrative services.
  • Perform patient check-in, vital-sign measurement, height and weight measurement, medication reconciliation, allergy review, and documentation of past medical history.
  • Perform point-of-care testing, administer immunizations, obtain consent, perform electrocardiograms and phlebotomy, transport patients by wheelchair, fit crutches, apply splints, measure peak flow, perform spirometry, set up and assist with procedures, enter medical information in the electronic medical record, and provide limited patient education.
  • Register patients for visits, assign faxes, schedule appointments, scan documents, answer phones and check voicemail, send and receive faxes, obtain prior authorization for medications and imaging orders, and process credit-card, cash, and check payments.
  • Maintain clinical areas, receive and organize supplies, stock examination rooms, record refrigerator temperatures daily, maintain general equipment, perform infection-control procedures, and complete required quality-assurance checks for point-of-care testing.
