Responsibilities
  • Assist the head coach with all activities of the designated program, including student-athlete recruitment and retention, academic progress monitoring, competitive success, budget management, and compliance with University, Conference, and National Collegiate Athletic Association guidelines.
  • Prioritize, promote, and actively support student-athlete academic achievement.
  • Assist the head coach with managing the intercollegiate athletic program, including monitoring academic success, retention, and graduation progress, and implementing action plans with academic staff when necessary.
  • Follow academic policies and collaborate with the Faculty Athletics Representative and National Collegiate Athletic Association academic coordinators to resolve conflicts.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit student-athletes.
  • Teach student-athletes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and knowledge essential to the sport.
  • Produce a high-performing team that meets and maintains competitive expectations established by University athletic administration.
  • Act in accordance with the athletic code of conduct and maintain professional and sportsmanlike conduct.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and adhere to University, Intercollegiate Athletics, National Collegiate Athletic Association, and Conference policies, procedures, bylaws, regulations, and rules.
  • Complete program administrative responsibilities according to procedures.
  • Support the head coach by operating a fiscally responsible program and providing leadership for fundraising and program advancement initiatives.
  • Care for, store, distribute, and maintain a detailed inventory of team equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
  • Support the University mission and serve as an ambassador of the service-excellence culture.
  • Model and support University and Athletics values and hold others accountable to those values.
  • Promote the Athletics department.
  • Anticipate the needs of students, colleagues, and administrators and respond promptly.
  • Establish effective community relationships while representing the program, department, and University.
  • Create experiential learning opportunities for student-athletes through campus and community outreach projects and events.
  • Maintain effective relationships with alumni and keep them engaged with the University.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
