Requirements
  • Advanced understanding of end-to-end product lifecycle management, from discovery and definition through delivery, measurement, and iteration, consistent with globally recognized product management curricula.
  • Ability to articulate and maintain a clear product vision and strategy, tying product decisions to business outcomes, operational efficiency, client value, and risk management.
  • Strong skills in qualitative and quantitative discovery: framing problems, conducting interviews/workshops, synthesizing insights, mapping journeys and processes, and translating findings into hypotheses and requirements.
  • Proficiency in writing high-quality epics, features, and user stories, including non-functional requirements, that support iterative delivery and clear testing.
  • Ability to define meaningful product KPIs and diagnostic metrics; experience partnering with Analytics to interpret product usage, operational performance, and experiment results to guide prioritization and design.
  • Solid understanding of web/SaaS product concepts (e.g., multi-tier architectures, integrations, APIs, roles/permissions, environments) sufficient to engage deeply with Engineering, question trade-offs, and make informed decisions.
  • Working knowledge of insurance brokerage concepts (e.g., client lifecycle, policy placement, renewals, servicing) and how they are represented in technology platforms, or demonstrated ability to develop this expertise quickly.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders, present options and trade-offs succinctly, and manage disagreement constructively.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority, keeping work focused on outcomes and delivering on commitments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives and dependencies concurrently, balancing short-term delivery with medium-term strategic work.
  • Comfort operating in Agile environments and collaborating closely with Scrum Masters, Engineers, QA, and other partners.
Responsibilities
  • Define and continuously refine vision, strategy, and measurable objectives for assigned products, ensuring clear alignment with Baldwin’s brokerage strategy and operating model.
  • Develop and maintain an outcome-oriented product roadmap that balances regulatory, operational, user experience, and technical considerations; socialize and adjust roadmaps based on evidence and stakeholder input.
  • Lead structured discovery using techniques endorsed by accredited product programs (e.g., stakeholder interviews, journey mapping, qualitative user research, and collaborative workshops) to understand user problems and opportunities.
  • Partner with Analytics and business teams to translate behavioral data, incident trends, and operational metrics into actionable product insights and hypotheses.
  • Translate problems and opportunities into well-formed epics, features, and user stories with clear acceptance criteria and edge cases suitable for Agile delivery teams.
  • Collaborate daily with Engineering, Architecture, UX, and Operations to shape feasible solution options, clarify trade-offs, and ensure designs adhere to technical, security, and data standards.
  • Own the product backlog for assigned domains: prioritize based on customer impact, risk, regulatory needs, dependencies, and capacity, using recognized prioritization frameworks (e.g., RICE, WSJF, value vs. effort).
  • Act as product lead within Agile ceremonies (e.g., planning, backlog refinement, reviews), ensuring work items are ready, understood, and anchored to defined outcomes.
  • Oversee functional validation for key features: define test scenarios, support test case design, review results, and accept/reject work based on agreed acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate release readiness for assigned changes, including communications, training inputs, support playbooks, and monitoring plans; ensure controlled rollout and early-life support.
  • Define and track product KPIs and success metrics (e.g., adoption, task completion, error and incident rates, cycle times, NPS/CSAT) in line with data-driven practices promoted by accredited product curricula.
  • Analyze product performance and user feedback, run and interpret small experiments where appropriate (e.g., A/B tests, pilot cohorts), and adjust roadmap and backlog based on evidence.
  • Serve as primary product contact for designated business areas (e.g., Client Service, Operations, Placement, Finance), managing expectations and aligning on priorities and trade-offs.
  • Facilitate cross-functional decision making, presenting clear options, impacts, and recommendations to leaders and governance forums (e.g., change committees, steering groups).
  • Support change adoption by partnering with Training, Communications, and local leaders to embed new capabilities into processes and roles.
  • Provide peer coaching and informal mentoring to Associate and Technology Product Analysts on discovery methods, story writing, prioritization, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to evolving Baldwin’s product management practices by sharing lessons learned, templates, and patterns drawn from reputable frameworks (e.g., Pragmatic’s market-driven approach, recognized Agile product owner practices, AIPMM product lifecycle concepts).
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business, data/analytics, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience consistent with a senior professional role.
  • 4–6 years of progressive experience in product management, product analysis, or closely related roles (e.g., business analysis, technical product ownership), including direct ownership of roadmaps and backlogs for business applications or SaaS products.
  • Direct experience with technology products in insurance, brokerage, or financial services, or in other highly regulated, B2B/B2B2C environments preferred.
  • Hands‑on experience with Agile/Scrum and related toolsets (e.g., Jira or Azure DevOps for backlog management; Confluence/SharePoint for documentation) preferred.
  • Familiarity with product management frameworks and practices from accredited or widely recognized programs (e.g., Cornell/eCornell Technical Product Management, Pragmatic Institute, AIPMM, Product School, university-backed product management or digital product programs) preferred.
  • Experience defining and tracking product KPIs, running small experiments, and using data/analytics tools (e.g., product analytics, BI dashboards, Excel/Sheets) to inform decisions preferred.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Pragmatic Institute, AIPMM, CSPO/PSPO, SAFe PO/PM, or university-backed product management certificates) are a plus.

Lilypad names Matta Chief Innovation Officer.

Lilypad names Matta Chief Innovation Officer. The coastal insurer says Rajiv Matta will guide its use of AI in underwriting, distribution and product development. Anthony R. O'Donnell // May 19, 2026 (Image source: Lilypad Insurance homepage.) Lilypad Insurance (New York), an admitted property/casualty insurance group focused on coastal property risk, has appointed Rajiv Matta Chief Innovation Officer. Matta will lead the insurer's use of artificial intelligence and emerging technology across underwriting, distribution and product development. Matta joins Lilypad from Millennial Specialty Insurance, a technology-driven MGA within The Baldwin Group, where he served as Chief Innovation Officer. He previously led the international property and specialty business at Assurant, overseeing seven product lines across 12 countries. "Rajiv joins us at an inflection point for the coastal insurance market," comments Sid Jha, Chairman and CEO, Lilypad Insurance. "His hands-on experience building insurance programs at scale, combined with his conviction that AI must be embedded across the full value chain, not bolted on, makes him exactly the kind of leader we need as we expand Lilypad's footprint. The gap between carriers who have genuinely operationalized AI and those still running isolated pilots is widening every quarter, and Rajiv understands that better than most." In his new role, Matta will shape Lilypad's innovation roadmap and support the company's use of AI and proprietary data in underwriting, pricing and distribution for coastally exposed markets. Lilypad says its approach uses proprietary AI models and satellite-derived data to support underwriting decisions. "Lilypad is built on a conviction I've held for years: that AI isn't a feature you add to an insurance company, it's the foundation you build on," comments Matta. "The coastal market is at a structural turning point. The insurance companies who will define the next decade are the ones doing the hard work now to own their data, automate intelligently and price risk with precision. I'm here to help Lilypad achieve that goal." Leadership Team Expansion Matta's appointment follows other recent senior hires at Lilypad and its MGA, including Andy Flanagan, VP, Claims, and Tyler Warden, Head of Sales. Flanagan previously held leadership roles at Allstate and Nationwide, while Warden brings experience in insurance, InsurTech and sales leadership. Matta holds two machine learning patents, including one involving the use of machine learning to optimize insurance distribution and another to predict risk variables. He holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Science in environmental engineering from Clemson University and a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Mumbai.
