Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting with several tax credits preferably, or a Master's degree in Accounting or Tax, and completion of the 150-hour credit requirement.
  • A current and valid certified public accountant's license, or active progress toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the applicable state CPA exam.
  • Proficiency with computers, tax-related software, spreadsheet software, and calculators.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, verbally and in writing.
  • Completion of continuing professional education established by the AICPA and applicable state society, averaging 40 hours annually.
  • Ability to use a personal vehicle for occasional same-day travel to client offices and seminars.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime, including potential Saturday work from early February through mid-April and during September through October.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare individual, business, nonprofit, trust, and estate tax returns of lesser complexity.
  • Perform tax-related tasks such as running depreciation reports, preparing tax projections, and mapping general ledger trial balances for tax return purposes.
  • Perform accounting services to adjust client books when needed.
  • Apply federal and state tax laws and regulations when preparing tax returns.
  • Keep the tax in-charge informed of work-in-progress status.
  • Perform less complex tax research assignments as requested and use tax research software.
  • Maintain firm confidentiality and high professional and ethical standards.
  • Develop accurate, organized, and prompt work habits.
  • Participate in continuing professional education and accept additional responsibility.
  • Represent the firm at local professional and business organization functions.
  • Learn and use new technology introduced into the work environment.
  • Perform other duties assigned by partners, the tax director, managers, or senior tax accountants.
