Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering is required.
  • At least 10 years of experience in Instrumentation and Controls engineering in industrial or energy facilities, mineral processing, or a similar heavy industrial field is required.
  • Strong knowledge of industry-specific codes and standards, including the National Electrical Code, American Petroleum Institute standards, and National Fire Protection Association standards, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution and review staff work for quality assurance.
  • The position may include direct supervision of staff, including hiring decisions, direction and delegation of work assignments, performance evaluations, training and development, and employee relations.
  • Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, site standards, and project safety standards.
  • Develop instrumentation engineering and design deliverables, including piping and instrumentation diagrams in collaboration with process and mechanical engineering, instrument indexes, instrument data sheets, instrument installation details, instrument location plans, wiring and loop diagrams, and panel drawings.
  • Lead the production of controls design deliverables, including input/output lists, process control narratives, and cause-and-effect diagrams.
  • Manage third-party control system suppliers to comply with control system design requirements and participate in factory acceptance tests.
  • Design and implement control systems for pumps, compressors, valves, and other equipment to optimize facility operations.
  • Develop instrumentation and controls material requisitions, review bids, make technical recommendations, review instrumentation and controls packages, and review vendor documentation.
  • Perform preliminary sizing calculations for instruments such as orifice plates, control valves, and thermowells.
  • Ensure that control systems and components meet industry safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform field visits and inspections as required.
  • Manage projects, including preparing cost estimates, proposals, budgets, resource allocations, and invoices.
  • Collaborate with project teams and other engineering disciplines to align deliverables, progress, and deadlines.
  • Review deliverables with peers and supervisors and ensure quality assurance and quality control procedures are performed on generated deliverables.
  • Collaborate with project teams and other departments to drive deliverables to completion.
  • Address issues proactively and ensure discipline-specific work is completed in alignment with project schedules, budgets, and scopes of work.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control on department deliverables, including peer reviews, interdepartmental checks, redlines, and feedback.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers by providing guidance, sharing industry knowledge, and offering feedback on technical deliverables.
  • Participate in department meetings and training as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Engineering License is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Autodesk Plant 3D is preferred.
