Requirements
  • Applicants must have either a current certification from the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor or the requirements necessary to be designated as a Qualified Health Professional with one year of experience or satisfactory completion of a training program in the treatment of substance use disorders.
  • All applicants must uphold the OASAS Scope of Practice and the Canon of Ethical Principles.
  • Candidates must have a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor certification and a current certification from the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services; CASAC-T certification is not accepted.
Responsibilities
  • Interview and screen individuals seeking admission to Suffolk County Opioid Treatment Programs.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized treatment plan for each patient.
  • Monitor patient progress and make recommendations for further treatment when necessary.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services.
  • Maintain patient records and reports.
  • Monitor the collection of patient urine samples and maintain pertinent records.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and clinic staff regarding patient progress and patient services.
  • Conduct education and information sessions, workshops, and training programs for individuals with substance use disorders and members of their community.
  • Counsel patients regarding job training and placement, advise them of available social services, and refer them to other agencies when necessary.
