Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Intermediate electrical, chemical, and mechanical experience is required.
  • One to three years of experience in landfill gas processing, chemical plant operations, industrial gas operations, power plant operations, or equivalent is required.
  • Understanding of process control systems as applied to landfill gas collection and processing is required.
  • Knowledge of basic math, gas chemistry, and piping and instrumentation drawings is required.
  • Ability to read blueprints and follow established procedures with minimal general supervision is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals is required.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, including use of a calculator, is required.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence is required.
  • Ability to speak effectively to employees of the organization is required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables is required.
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions is required.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and email systems, is required.
  • Ability to work outdoors year-round in rugged terrain is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • The candidate must pass a background check, physical examination, hearing test, and Department of Transportation drug test.
Responsibilities
  • Operate the wellfield during the assigned shift efficiently and productively while maintaining compliance with the site-specific Title V Operating Permit, standard operating procedures, safety and environmental standards, and applicable state, federal, and local rules and regulations.
  • Maintain daily logs and obtain readings in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Follow plant and landfill safety policies and procedures and use required personal protective equipment, including safety shoes, safety vest, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, chemical protection, and hydrogen sulfide monitoring equipment.
  • Maintain a clean workspace, including the plant building, control room, restroom, break room, and grounds.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Perform landfill tuning duties by recording and storing data as required.
  • Adjust and tune the wellfield to maximize gas quantity and quality.
  • Maintain the wellfield database and associated logs to meet regulatory and corporate compliance requirements.
  • Document wellhead readings and coordinate, communicate, and verify corrective actions to maintain continuous compliance.
  • Observe applicable safety and environmental regulations while performing assigned tasks.
  • Assist supervisory staff with operational planning for construction projects and gas collection field expansions.
  • Ensure project compliance with government rules and regulations, the site-specific Title V Permit, and New Source Performance Standards guidelines.
  • Respond to callouts in a timely manner and work overtime as required.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility all-terrain vehicle.
  • Ensure analytical equipment calibrations and recordkeeping are current.
  • Acquire knowledge of all gas collection equipment.
  • Perform analytical tests and document results, including calibration of data collection and gas analysis instruments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three or more years of experience in landfill gas processing or power plant operations is desirable.
  • Any technical certification or training is desirable.

BP hires PJT Partners' Ben Monaghan as head of M&A

BP has hired Ben Monaghan from PJT Partners as its new head of mergers and acquisitions. Monaghan will take up the position in early 2027 as the energy company works to streamline its portfolio under chief executive officer Meg O'Neill. BP said Monaghan brings extensive experience in corporate finance, strategic advisory, and transaction work across the energy sector. The appointment comes as BP seeks to reverse years of underperformance. PJT Partners declined to comment on the move.

Oil majors use lockouts to secure union concessions at US refineries

US oil majors are increasingly using aggressive tactics in labour negotiations, deploying lockouts to extract concessions from workers' unions. The trend began with Exxon's 10-month lockout of 650 workers at its Beaumont refinery in 2021, the longest US refinery labour dispute in 40 years. BP and Marathon are currently locking out workers at their Whiting, Indiana, and Martinez, California, refineries whilst continuing operations with contractors and replacement staff. This strategy undermines unions' traditional bargaining power based on skilled labour being essential. At Whiting, BP proposes a 13% pay rise over four years — below national oil bargaining standards for the first two years — and seeks to transfer work to third-party contractors. The company also wants waivers on bargaining rights regarding AI tools and time clocks. Union representatives say BP is following Exxon's playbook, having hired the same lead negotiator who oversaw the Beaumont lockout.

EnQuest CEO confirms interest in BP's North Sea assets after oil major launches sale process

EnQuest CEO Amjad Bseisu confirmed to CNBC on Thursday that the UK oil and gas producer is interested in acquiring BP's North Sea assets. BP launched a sale process in July for its UK North Sea portfolio, which includes five production hubs employing around 1,100 people. The potential acquisition would mark BP's major retreat from the basin after 60 years of operations. Bseisu noted only a handful of companies remain interested in UK North Sea assets. EnQuest reported adjusted pre-tax profit of $54.6 million in the first half of the year, with revenues reaching $529.9 million. The company previously purchased North Sea interests from BP, including a 25% stake in the Magnus field in 2017.

BP names ex-Balfour Beatty CEO Ian Tyler as chairman after boardroom turmoil

BP has appointed Ian Tyler as its new chairman, making him the company's third chair this year. Tyler, former chief executive of construction giant Balfour Beatty, has been serving as interim chairman since Albert Manifold's abrupt departure in May. Tyler began his career as finance director at Balfour Beatty before becoming chief executive. He currently chairs Grafton Group and serves as senior independent director of Anglo American. His previous roles include chairing Cairn Energy and serving as non-executive director of BAE Systems. Tyler said he will lead the board's evolution to support BP's strategic priorities and long-term value creation. He pledged to establish regular and transparent engagement with shareholders whilst supporting the leadership team.
