About the job

Requirements
  • A degree in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science from an accredited university.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for employment at AEDC.
Responsibilities
  • Support execution of technology development tasks for Facility Modeling solutions, including development of MATLAB/Simulink physics-based models of AEDC test facilities and test articles.
  • Support any Mission Execution area by evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform work involving the preparation, interpretation, or review of multidisciplinary computations and hardware-in-the-loop systems using a first-principles approach, adding computational complexity as needed for the work.
  • Apply engineering tools to support capital improvement and maintenance projects.
  • Analyze and identify deficiencies in existing system- and component-level simulations; formulate, implement, and validate improvements to overcome those deficiencies.
  • Develop new system- and component-level simulations and expand existing simulation capabilities to meet future requirements.
  • Develop and validate new computational approaches in fluid modeling, thermal modeling, numerical algorithms, and code processing.
  • Draft, review, and present results in written and/or visual formats to technical and high-level audiences.
  • Implement system-level models into hardware-in-the-loop architecture; monitor and troubleshoot communication, data-transfer, and feedback loops between the simulation and other components.
  • Develop and maintain positive, open relationships with AEDC counterparts and Facility Modeling & Analysis technology-development customers.
  • Engage with colleagues as required to advance technology, facility improvements, advanced diagnostics, and solutions to complex problems.
  • Champion a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Wear company-issued personal protective equipment in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Interact effectively with engineering, management, and craft personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, with three years of experience in computational development and analysis.
  • Education in fundamental engineering and science, and advanced knowledge of mathematics, algorithms, and computer languages.
  • Technical knowledge of general engineering principles, including foundational thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, multidisciplinary modeling, and applying this knowledge to engineering problems.
  • Familiarity with one or more AEDC facilities.
  • Experience with the MATLAB/Simulink product suite.
  • Experience with programmable logic controller-based control systems.
  • Technical knowledge of developing computational engineering methods and applying modeling and simulation tools to engineering problems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with employees, clients, and customers.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to participate in and foster a work environment based on openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Active Department of Defense Secret security clearance.

About the company

Beyond New Horizons is a joint-venture contractor supporting test and evaluation operations for the United States Air Force. Its workforce helps operate, maintain and modernize ranges, facilities, technology and mission infrastructure used for aerospace testing. The organization brings together engineering, operations, logistics and program-management capabilities around a long-term federal contract. BNH is therefore a defense mission-support employer rather than an aircraft manufacturer, with work centered on enabling customers to conduct complex tests safely and reliably.
