7-Eleven Japan is adding Tesla Superchargers to its stores.

7-Eleven Japan is adding Tesla Superchargers to its stores. Should local convenience stores look into doing this, too? Over in Japan, Tesla and 7-Eleven are partnering to install the American brand's high-speed Superchargers to allow customers to top up their EVs in short bursts as they shop at their local konbini. The first of these charging stations was opened at a 7-Eleven branch in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture last week on July 11th (a.k.a. 7-Eleven day). The convenience chain shared its plans to install Superchargers at 10 more stores by February next year, prioritizing locations with ample parking spaces. According to Tesla, charging can take as little as 15 to 30 minutes thanks to the 250kW maximum output of the NACS-compliant Superchargers. Just like the convenience store itself, Superchargers installed at 7-Eleven stores will be available for use 24/7. Estimated charging costs range around ¥37 to ¥200 (P14 to P76 as of writing) per minute. Tesla previously installed Superchargers at FamilyMart locations in 2023. In total, the American automaker has 744 Superchargers across 150 locations in Japan. With 7-Eleven becoming the second convenience chain to integrate Tesla's charging network, this number will continue to climb. Tesla also comments in the press release: "We believe that creating a charging environment where electric vehicles can be charged seamlessly and instantly wherever you go is essential for their integration into society." Could local convenience stores soon carry their own charging stations, too? It's certainly not impossible, but shopping malls may already serve the niche of offering convenient charging while drivers do business inside. Still, with mobility providers scrambling to set up their own charging networks by signing partnerships left and right, it's not off the table just yet.

Tesla reinforces Superchargers in Portugal and brings smart queue functionality.

Tesla reinforces Superchargers in Portugal and brings smart queue functionality. Anyone driving an electric car knows that arriving at a charging station and finding all spots occupied can be frustrating. At Tesla's Superchargers, especially during holiday periods and weekends, it's not always clear who arrived first, which can lead to disorganized queues and even arguments among drivers. But the brand has brought news. Tesla has now begun rolling out a long-awaited feature: a virtual queue for Superchargers. The novelty is arriving gradually and can already be used in several locations, including in Portugal. Goodbye to improvised queues. Until now, when all charging spots were occupied, drivers had to organize the queue "the old-fashioned way," hoping that others respected the order of arrival. With the new feature, simply arrive at the Supercharger and, if no spot is free, the system automatically invites the user to join a digital waiting list. The Tesla app and the vehicle's screen then show: * Your position in the queue. * The number of vehicles ahead. * The estimated waiting time. * A notification when it's your turn to start charging. The entire process is automatic and aims to eliminate doubts about who should charge first. This doubt, in fact, often escalates into arguments and animosity (and even acts of violence). How does the virtual queue work? Unlike a traditional reservation, Tesla implemented a system based on geolocation. This means the vehicle must actually be at the Supercharger to join the queue. It is not possible to reserve a spot from a distance, preventing someone from "saving" a spot before arriving. When a charger becomes available, the system automatically calls the next vehicle on the list. If a user tries to start charging before their turn, they receive a warning indicating an active waiting queue. A problem that has become more frequent. In recent years, the Supercharger network has ceased to serve only Tesla vehicles. In many countries, including Portugal, various models from other brands can now use the infrastructure, as long as they are compatible and use the Tesla app. This opening has significantly increased network usage and, consequently, queues began to appear in some busier locations. On social media and forums, reports of arguments among drivers about who had priority to occupy the next charger multiplied. Tesla aims precisely to eliminate such situations. Portugal also benefits. Although Portugal has been receiving new Superchargers and the network expansion continues, there are locations where demand may exceed supply during peak times. According to Tesla, the Portuguese network continues to grow and already covers virtually all major road corridors in the country, allowing long-distance travel with relative ease. The introduction of the virtual queue should be especially useful during holiday periods, long weekends, and special operations, when some Superchargers record full occupancy. Image captured at a Galp gas station located on National Road 5, in Alcácer do Sal, Setúbal district, on the way to the Algarve. Still expanding. The feature is being rolled out gradually through updates to the Tesla app and vehicle software. Initially, the company began testing at some stations in the United States before expanding availability to more markets. The presence of the feature in Portugal shows that the expansion is already underway. A small detail that greatly improves the experience. Although it seems like a simple change, this is one of the most requested features by the Tesla community for several years. The solution does not increase the number of available chargers, but it makes the use of stations much more predictable when they reach maximum capacity. As the number of electric vehicles continues to grow and more manufacturers use Tesla's infrastructure, tools like this could become essential to maintain the flow of the world's largest fast-charging network.

New Tesla Cybercab: details of range, power and battery size revealed.

New Tesla Cybercab: details of range, power and battery size revealed. The exterior of the Cybercab is also pretty minimalistic, with smooth, simple surfacing, full-width light bars at the front and rear, plus no back window or side mirrors. The Tesla also has a set of butterfly-style doors, and instead of a traditional alloy wheel design, it boasts blanked-off wheel discs with larger rear rims compared with the fronts. However, it's not clear how many of these features on the prototype will make it to the production car. Autos & Vehicles What is the law on self-driving cars in the UK? Full self-driving cars got a boost earlier this year when the UK government passed a bill called the Automated Vehicles Act. It essentially enables the introduction of fully autonomous vehicles to UK roads within the next couple of years - provided they "achieve a level of safety at least as high as careful and competent human drivers". Highlighting the Cybercab's self-driving capability is the lack of a steering wheel inside. That could prove to be tricky for the car here in the UK, because the Automated Vehicles Act requires a person to give inputs to the car on occasion. Many billions of pounds have been spent on autonomous vehicles by a wide array of manufacturers, but so far, due to legislation, Automobile News Online has yet to see a full self-driving car on UK roads. The technology is here, however. Most autonomous prototypes have been based on existing cars, such as Jaguar and Waymo's I-Pace-derived creation back in 2018, and Hyundai's Ioniq 5 test car being equipped with Level 4 technology. The Tesla Cybercab's most direct competitor is another two-seat robotaxi from Croatian start-up Verne, which was created by Mate Rimac of electric hypercar fame. The car is confirmed to be hitting the streets of Manchester in the UK within the next few years. What will the Tesla Cybercab's price be? During the reveal of the car at Tesla's 'We, Robot' event in California in 2024, CEO Elon Musk said "we expect it to be around $30,000". That would make the Cybercab roughly £23,000 in the UK, although, as Automobile News Online has said, there are no firm plans to bring the Cybercab over here. However, that's not surprising, because Musk himself admitted during the same event that he tends to be "a little optimistic with timeframes," and so far has only said that the Cybercar is expected to enter production "before 2027". Discover more SUVs & Crossovers Engine & Transmission In those locations where the Cybercab does launch, Automobile News Online is told the car will be accessible to anyone via the Tesla app, and will be yours for as long as you need it - even a whole day if necessary. Now you can buy a car through its network of top dealers around the UK. Search for the latest deals... Video Player Select Month Test drive. No Content Available

Tesla teases greater Grok FSD integration and 'Banish' feature 'in about 3 months'

Tesla teases greater Grok FSD integration and 'Banish' feature 'in about 3 months' 1 hour ago June 18, 2026 Credit: Tesla Tesla is going to let you guide Full Self-Driving with Grok in 3 months, CEO Elon Musk confirmed on X. The response from Musk, which revealed Tesla plans to allow drivers to effectively control the car and its navigation more explicitly using Grok, puts the feature for about September. A Tesla owner said that Full Self-Driving is great, but owners should be able to "converse with Grok like we can with an Uber driver." She then used examples like, "Grok, turn right here," and "Drop us off right here, we'll walk due to traffic," and finally," Drop at entrance first, then park far away." Coincidentally, the final piece of dialogue would also mean features like Banish are potentially on the way soon. Discover more Autonomous Vehicles Autos & Vehicles Banish is also referred to as "Reverse Summon," and would enable the car to self-park while dropping occupants off at their destination. This would be a great way to improve the overall experience while supervising FSD. Navigation is already a major painpoint that many owners complain about. Manual overrides when a maneuver is requested or canceled (like using the turn signal stalk to override a navigation route), do not always work. The feature could be especially useful in street parking scenarios in a city, where spots are sometimes tough to come by. Many of Teslarati, LLC who grab dinner in a more populated area will park a street or two over from wherever Teslarati, LLC is going, because sometimes you know that's the best you will get. If a driver using FSD could say, "Hey Grok, turn right here on Queen St. and park in that open spot on the right," it could save a lot of confusion FSD might have on its own. Musk teased that a similar feature was "coming" back in February: It is certainly surprising that Tesla is doing it at this point. The company's more recent moves have been more evident of taking control and inputs away from humans and putting them in the AI's hands more frequently. The biggest example of this was taking away Max Speed in AI4 cars, giving Teslarati, LLC Speed Profiles, and not having any input on the fastest speed the car will travel. Of course, giving navigation preferences to Grok is availble already in Teslas, but not at the drop of a hat. Instead, you can suggest a certain route at the beginning of your drive. Here's an example of that from December: Finally, the original post that Musk responded to mentioned a parking preference after dropping off the occupants, which describes the Banish feature that Tesla has teased for years. Teslarati, LLC is not sure if Musk was responding more to the ability to guide the car with Grok, or whether he also was including Banish in the three-month prediction timeframe.
