Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent with some accounting or bookkeeping coursework.
  • Four to six years of experience in accounting, finance, and business.
  • Three to five years of experience working in an enterprise resource planning system environment.
  • Three years of progressively responsible clerical experience.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately key information into an automated accounting system while using spreadsheet and word-processing applications.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board regulations.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of the financial systems, business operations, and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and software.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage schedules, coordinate meetings, set goals, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and collaboratively within a team.
  • Initiative, time management, and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a resource or expert in the program area and provide technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Train City employees on the Accounts Receivable process and the Receivable module in Oracle.
  • Update and maintain customer accounts in the Oracle Receivable module.
  • Reconcile the Receivable and Payable modules to the General Ledger monthly.
  • Obtain information from other departments to ensure records are accurate and complete and that accounts receivable ledgers and journals are up to date.
  • Provide quarterly training to employees in each department on the City's financial system as it relates to accounts receivable and collections.
  • Process monthly customer statements and submit past-due accounts to a third-party collection agency.
  • Reconcile and interface cash receipts from the Trakit system and enter night deposits into the Teller system.
  • File property certifications with Weld County.
  • File monthly and quarterly sales tax returns with the City and the State.
  • Analyze monthly revenue and expenditures in assigned funds and prepare associated adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepare segments of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
  • Communicate with and respond to customer inquiries, complaints, and City personnel requests for non-confidential invoice information.
  • Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Research and resolve account discrepancies.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Work independently and within a team environment.
  • Use and develop spreadsheets with intermediate Excel proficiency.
  • Serve as backup to other departmental staff as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
