Requirements
  • The candidate must be able to work at 7:00 a.m. and arrive on time.
  • The candidate must be at least 16 years of age.
  • The candidate must have a high school diploma or be a senior in high school.
  • The candidate must have experience working with children in a structured group setting.
  • The candidate must be able to learn and think quickly to solve child-to-child situations.
  • The candidate must communicate effectively and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with implementing a varied and challenging program of activities for children, including homework time, enrichment activities, organized physical activities, free play, and snack time.
  • Assist the Site Supervisor with supervising all children at the site.
  • Build relationships with children and families by greeting them positively every day.
  • Maintain discipline with children during all activities under the guidance of the YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Code of Conduct.
  • Assist the Site Supervisor with motivating and encouraging all children to participate in program activities.
  • Provide a safe environment for children and follow all required safety procedures in an emergency.
  • Assist the Site Supervisor in developing an attractive, organized, clean, and stimulating space.
  • Clean and disinfect all equipment according to state requirements.
  • Maintain the site, room, equipment, and materials in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Set up the site or room before children's arrival and clean up after their departure.
  • Keep the Site Supervisor informed of situations requiring attention related to children's behavior.
