View

Verizon runs one of the largest wireless and fiber networks in the United States, selling mobile and home internet service to consumers, businesses and government agencies. Its consumer arm sells phone plans along with Fios and Frontier fiber internet and 5G home internet, which beams broadband to homes over its cellular network. Verizon Business sells mobile, networking and security services to companies of every size, including nearly all of the Fortune 500. Most revenue comes from monthly service plans, with more from device sales and installment payments. Verizon was incorporated in 1983 as Bell Atlantic, took the Verizon name in 2000, and is headquartered in New York City.

What believers are saying

  • Phone growth is back: Verizon added 184,000 postpaid phones from April to June 2026.
  • Home internet is growing: it added 193,000 5G home and 155,000 fiber customers in the quarter ended June 2026.
  • School gets subsidized: Verizon's careers site lists $5,250 a year in tuition assistance for employees.

What critics are saying

  • More cuts are planned: in January 2026 leadership targeted $5 billion in 2026 savings, largely from job cuts.
  • Debt grew with Frontier: Verizon paid $9.8 billion cash and took on $12.9 billion of debt in January 2026.
  • Core revenue grows slowly: mobility and broadband service revenue rose 2.8% in the second quarter of 2026.

What makes Verizon Communications unique

  • Fiber reach doubled: buying Frontier in January 2026 gave Verizon about 30 million fiber passings in 31 states.
  • Big business runs on it: Verizon says it serves nearly all of the Fortune 500.
  • Satellites will fill its dead zones: in May 2026 it agreed to pool spectrum with AT&T and T-Mobile.

Verizon raises guidance again, but SpaceX fears leave shares at 8x earnings

Verizon shares fell after SpaceX bought more wireless spectrum to take its Starlink satellite service directly to phones. AT&T and T-Mobile also dropped, which suggests an industry-wide fear rather than a Verizon-specific problem. Verizon's second-quarter results remain solid. Adjusted EBITDA hit a record $13.7 billion, with a 40.1% margin. It added 184,000 postpaid phone customers, and free cash flow rose 24.4% to $6.4 billion. Revenue slipped 0.7% to $34.3 billion on weaker equipment sales. For a second straight quarter, management raised its full-year outlook. It now expects adjusted EPS of $4.99 to $5.04 and buybacks of up to $4.5 billion. The stock trades at 8.29 times forward earnings, against a sector average of 12.35. Net unsecured debt stood at $128.7 billion. Third-quarter results, due later this month, will show whether satellite competition is starting to bite.

Zayo names Mariana Agathoklis Schlock Executive Vice President, Chief Communications & Marketing Officer.

Zayo names Mariana Agathoklis Schlock Executive Vice President, Chief Communications & Marketing Officer. Zayo has appointed Mariana Agathoklis Schlock as its first-ever Executive Vice President and Chief Communications & Marketing Officer (CCMO), bringing communications, marketing and environmental, social and governance (ESG) functions under a unified leadership structure. Schlock will report to Zayo CEO Sowmyanarayan Sampath and oversee the company's integrated communications, marketing and ESG teams. Her role will focus on strengthening brand positioning, market visibility and engagement with customers, employees, investors, industry partners and communities. The appointment comes as growing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure puts increased attention on the networks supporting cloud computing, enterprise platforms and AI applications. Zayo is positioning its communications and marketing strategy around these changing infrastructure requirements and the needs of businesses adopting AI technologies. Schlock joins Zayo after nearly nine years at Verizon, where she held senior positions across consumer, business, media and corporate functions. Most recently, she served as Head of Communications for Verizon Consumer, a business unit generating approximately $100 billion in annual revenue. During her tenure at Verizon, she contributed to several major brand and commercial initiatives, including the public launch of 5G, Verizon Business Small Business Days and the Verizon Family campaign. Before Verizon, Schlock spent 12 years at MTV, leading communications initiatives across corporate, brand, programming and digital operations. Her experience spans corporate reputation, customer engagement, brand strategy and communications during periods of business transformation. At Zayo, the combination of marketing, communications and ESG responsibilities under one executive reflects a consolidated approach to corporate messaging and stakeholder engagement. As AI adoption increases demand for digital infrastructure, the company will need to communicate its role in supporting enterprises, cloud providers and data center operators navigating this shift. Schlock's appointment adds a senior communications and marketing leader to Zayo's executive team as the company responds to evolving infrastructure needs across the digital economy.

Verizon exec overhaul claims chief network officer Adam Koeppe.

Verizon exec overhaul claims chief network officer Adam Koeppe. Koeppe in a LinkedIn post explained that 'it's time to move on to the next chapter' October 09, 2026 Long-tenured Verizon network executive Adam Koeppe is set to leave the carrier at year-end, continuing what has been a year-long overhaul of the carrier's executive suite under CEO Dan Schulman. Koeppe, in a LinkedIn post, explained that "it's time to move on to the next chapter," stepping away from his current role as SVP and chief network officer at the end of the year. Despite the move, Koeppe did leave a positive note for the carrier. "My confidence in Verizon's future remains high," Koeppe wrote. "The mission to build, secure, and scale the foundational networks of tomorrow matters now more than ever. I will be enthusiastically rooting for the V-Team (especially all our Leadership Development Program team members) as you continue to expand the boundaries of what is possible with creativity and empathy." Koeppe has spent more than a quarter-century at the carrier across various network management roles. This began as a member of its technical staff at the turn of the century, working up to taking on the current chief network officer role late last year. It's also worth noting that Koeppe served nearly two years in the mid-90s as a customer service representative at Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile, which years later would become one of the regional telecom legs that formed Verizon. Verizon operational overhaul continues. Koeppe's move comes on the heels of published reports that Verizon was set to slash up to 500 jobs across its corporate operations, cuts that were labeled as "part of our ongoing transformation" and the latest under Schulman, who in just a year has implemented significant cost-cutting programs across the carrier. This included an initial move to slash 13,000 jobs, which was completed at the end of Verizon's fiscal first quarter of this year and came with a $2 billion price tag, and a more recent round of cuts. Specific to the carrier's corporate ranks, Koeppe's exit echoes that of former Verizon Consumer CEO Sowmyanarayan Sampath, who left the carrier earlier this year and just recently popped up as CEO of Zayo Group. Koeppe was also part of that corporate overhaul when, late last year, he was tapped as head of the carrier's combined Core Engineering and Operations group, having previously headed up what was the carrier's Technology Planning, Capital, and Maintenance Engineering team. The move came under the cloud of broad corporate job cuts, which Koeppe acknowledged in a LinkedIn post at that time. "It's been a tough couple of weeks here as many of our friends and colleagues are leaving Verizon," Koeppe wrote. "There is immense gratitude for their years of service to our customers. Health and happiness to all as you begin your next chapter." More in carrier networks.

Veteran Verizon exec Koeppe sets exit date.

Veteran Verizon exec Koeppe sets exit date. Verizon continues to retool its executive leadership team, with Adam Koeppe, chief network officer for core engineering and operations, set to depart by the year-end. Koeppe stated on LinkedIn "it's time to move on to the next chapter" after more than 26 years with the company. "My confidence in Verizon's future remains high," Koeppe stated. "The mission to build, secure, and scale the foundational networks of tomorrow matters now more than ever." He started his career in telecommunications as a customer service representative at Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile which was a joint venture that eventually led to the formation of Verizon. Recon Analytics analyst Roger Entner stated on LinkedIn Koeppe was one of the employees "who made Verizon Verizon almost from day one," while congratulating him on "a terrific and highly impactful career". Koeppe was named to his current position in December 2025 after working in several technology and engineering roles during his career at Verizon. Koeppe's planned departure came after current CEO Dan Schulman took over as chief in October 2025 with a pledge to overhaul the company, including its executive team. The company announced a plan to slash 15,000 jobs in November 2025, which was followed by laying off roughly 3,000 retail and corporate employees in July 2026. Verizon announced in June 2026 Joe Russo, executive VP and president of global networks and technology, is retiring in Q1 of next year after 30 years at the company. He will be replaced by ex-Deutsche Telekom executive Abdu Mudesir. In February, Verizon consumer chief Sowmyanarayan Sampath stepped down from his role as part of Schulman's turnaround effort prior to resurfacing as CEO of Zayo on 1 September.

Internet Provider Satisfaction now goes beyond network quality.

Internet Provider Satisfaction now goes beyond network quality. T-Mobile, Verizon, GFiber (Google Fiber) and AT&T Rank Highest in Respective Segments 8 October 2026 * Wireless Internet continues to outperform wired internet in customer satisfaction * Digital tools are driving improvements in both wired and wireless internet satisfaction * Wired internet value for price paid satisfaction continues to increase TROY, Mich.: October 8, 2026 - Reliable connectivity is now a baseline expectation rather than a defining competitive advantage for residential internet providers, according to the JD Power 2026 U.S. Internet Service Provider Satisfaction Study.(SM) Wireless internet service continues to lead wired internet in overall satisfaction, 645 to 560 on a 1,000-point scale, but the gap narrowed by 8 points in 2026, as wired providers improved customers' ratings of digital tools and value for price paid. "The wired internet market appears to be entering a new phase of competition," said Carl Lepper, senior director of the TMT and Utilities Practice at JD Power. "Stable internet service is no longer a differentiator. It's a basic expectation. What increasingly separates providers is their ability to deliver value, build trust, and create seamless digital experiences. This year's study shows wired providers continue to close the satisfaction gap with wireless, driven by improvements in value and digital tools. At the same time, wireless providers maintain an advantage by delivering a simpler customer experience and stronger perceptions of affordability." The following are additional findings of the study: * Wireless leads in value: 2026 data shows 70% of wireless customers agree their plan is affordable, compared to 55% of wired internet customers. The average monthly cost for wired internet remains $84, while wireless internet has increased to $77. * Digital tool satisfaction gap: More than 80% of customers resolved issues without any challenges on provider websites and satisfaction for these wireless customers is 710 versus 625 for wired. When complications arose during the resolution process, wireless satisfaction dropped 96 points to 614, while wired satisfaction fell 167 points to 458, underscoring that digital tool reliability is imperative. * App problem resolution reigns supreme: App usage for problem resolution remains low, with only 28% of wired and 38% of wireless using the app and 37% using phone support. Study data shows that 85% of wired and 90% of wireless internet customers using the app resolve their issue on first contact, compared with over 67% and 69% respectively, for phone support, highlighting the app's potential. Internet providers must do more to drive customers toward the more effective digital channel. Study rankings. T-Mobile ranks highest in the national wireless internet segment for a 3rd consecutive year, with a score of 659. The segment average is 645. Verizon ranks highest in the wired internet - east region for a 14th consecutive year, with a score of 592. Cox Communications (549) ranks second, followed by Frontier Communications (542). AT&T ranks highest in the wired internet - north central region for a 4th consecutive year, with a score of 578. Xfinity (558) ranks second. The segment average is 553. GFiber (Google Fiber) ranks highest in the wired internet - south region for a 4th consecutive year, with a score of 707. AT&T (611) ranks second and Frontier Communications (604) ranks third. AT&T ranks highest in the wired internet - west region for a 5th consecutive year, with a score of 595. Frontier Communications (567) ranks second and CenturyLink and Spectrum (545) rank third in a tie. The 2026 U.S. Residential Internet Service Provider Satisfaction Study is based on responses from 31,548 customers that currently have internet service with a provider included in the study. The study measures overall satisfaction with internet service providers based on seven dimensions: consistently delivering high-quality service; value for price paid; ease of doing business; level of trust with provider; people; digital tools; and resolving problems or complaints. The study was fielded from August 2025 through August 2026. About JD Power.
