Seplat, Shell and BP in focus as Europe warns of tight fuel supplies before winter

European officials have warned that tight fuel supplies and refinery closures leave the region exposed heading into winter. That has put UK-listed energy stocks back in focus, according to a Simply Wall St oil and gas screen. Three picks stand out. Seplat Energy, a Nigerian crude producer, has a market cap of £5.0b and is expanding its gas output through the ANOH gas plant and Sapele Gas Integrated Project. Shell, valued at £225.7b, is betting on gas and renewable power for data centres. BP, at £96.0b, points to its Bumerangue discovery in Brazil, estimated at around 8 billion barrels, and a 90% organic reserve replacement ratio in 2025. The screen found 12 more oil and gas companies.

Shell posts $10.81B quarterly profit on record refining margins, lifts buyback to $5B

Shell posted its highest quarterly profit since 2022 and raised its share buyback, as record refining margins and stronger LNG performance beat expectations. Third-quarter net profit reached $10.81 billion, above analysts' average estimate of $10.33 billion and nearly double the $5.43 billion a year earlier. Shell lifted its quarterly buyback to $5 billion from $3 billion, its second-largest on record. Shares rose more than 3% in early trading. Refining margin climbed to about $42 per barrel, nearly four times the year-earlier level. Cash flow from operations excluding working capital rose to $21.7 billion from $12.24 billion. Oil and gas output fell 17% in the first nine months of 2026, largely due to lower Middle East volumes. Shell also recorded about $2 billion in impairments on its European biogas business, and cut 2026 capital-spending guidance to $23 billion to $25 billion.

Shell reports Q3 results on October 29 as shares sit near $108 high, with refining margin seen at $42/bbl

Shell plc will report its third-quarter 2026 results on October 29. Investors will look for signs that stronger oil prices and refining margins lifted earnings and cash generation. The company expects its indicative refining margin to rise to $42 per barrel from $24 in the second quarter. It forecasts Integrated Gas production of 740,000–780,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, helped by the ARC Resources acquisition. In the second quarter, adjusted earnings reached $9.8 billion, up from $4.3 billion a year earlier. Shell also announced a $3 billion share buyback. Shares have gained 40.1% over the past year and trade about 3% below their 52-week high of $108.43. Analysts expect third-quarter earnings per share of $3.54.

Morgan Sindall, Shell and Balfour Beatty screen as undervalued UK cash flow stocks

UK consumer confidence has fallen at a pace not seen since the Brexit vote, as households face higher tax expectations and rising energy costs. Simply Wall St says that may leave cash-generating British shares trading below estimated fair value. Its screen of London-listed stocks flags three: Morgan Sindall Group, Shell, and Balfour Beatty. The screen found 29 more companies. Morgan Sindall, valued at £1.8b, has a secured order book up 39% to £12b, tied to long public sector contracts. Shell has a market cap of £222b and an LNG portfolio above 60 million tons. Balfour Beatty, worth £3.9b, relies on long-life concessions and maintenance contracts for steadier cash flow.
