Requirements
- The candidate must be efficient in using imaging equipment, office equipment, related materials, and Synapse.
- The candidate must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
- An Ultrasound Technician/Diagnostic Medical Sonographer must be registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, obtain Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Registered Vascular Technologist or Registered Vascular Sonographer certification within 24 months of eligibility, and new-hire registered sonographers must hold both certifications within 12 months of hire.
- An RDMS must have current ultrasound registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and should obtain Registered Vascular Technologist or Registered Vascular Sonographer certification within 24 months of eligibility.
- The candidate must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within the normal range.
- Physical presence onsite is essential.
Responsibilities
- Provide imaging services and transport patients of all ages, from neonates through geriatric patients, while explaining procedures and communicating adequately with patients and families.
- Uphold safety standards, follow established protocols and guidelines, and observe Joint Commission accreditation standards.
- Use I Care principles to ensure proper patient identification, correct examinations, and improved patient communication and engagement.
- Use AIDET principles, prioritize patient satisfaction, and collaborate with departments, modalities, and personnel to provide patient care.
- Manage supplies, equipment, and department resources responsibly, including understanding clinical history, supply and exam charges, and billing practices.
- Correlate clinical history with the examinations being performed.
- Perform duties necessary to maintain accreditation.
- Maintain a safe and clean ultrasound environment.
- Participate in ultrasound quality control and complete documentation for all ultrasound equipment.
- Work with the manager, supervisor, and staff to control and maintain inventory and supplies, and communicate problems and supply needs.
- Care for, clean, and maintain imaging, transport, office supplies, equipment, and software required by the assigned area.
- Instruct and supervise student technologists and new employees as assigned.
- Perform off-duty call assignments when required; such assignments are compensated according to hospital practice.
- When assigned as a charge or lead technician, coordinate services, serve as a contact for radiologists, physician offices, and departments, communicate protocol and equipment changes across shifts, and monitor area or department needs.
- Per diem staff must work one holiday per calendar year and at least once during a 90-day period, report unavailability, and provide two weeks' resignation notice.
- Function proficiently in the specified area with little or no supervision.
- Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards identified in performance evaluations.
- Complete employee handbook compliance requirements and required computer-based training, in-services, meetings, and educational sessions.
- Adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards and create positive relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and colleagues.
- Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet, and respond promptly to communications.
- Adhere to DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
