  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Two years of cardiac catheterization laboratory experience are required.
  • Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certifications must be maintained.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification may be required depending on unit-specific needs.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification must be obtained within 24 months of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Work under the supervision of a preceptor and/or charge person during the orientation period.
  • Deliver appropriate care, recognize patient conditions, and ensure successful completion of cardiovascular procedures and protocols.
  • Assess patients’ physical conditions and age-specific needs.
  • Educate patients about performed procedures, needs, safety, and comfort while in their care.
  • Acquire patients’ clinical histories and accurately document the information.
  • Verify files and records for completeness and accuracy and archive or amend demographic information in the appropriate storage media.
  • Position patients, equipment, and associated devices and manipulate technical factors to produce high-quality images for interpretation.
  • Assess processed image media for technical quality and patient identification, ensuring that relevant anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Apply radiation-protection principles when applicable to minimize exposure to patients, oneself, and others.
  • Provide physiological and hemodynamic monitoring during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Support physicians as a scrub assistant during cardiovascular procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique.
  • Appraise and evaluate actual and potential vessel hemostasis after procedures.
  • Locate, use, and troubleshoot complex technical equipment and instruments; act as a resource for their operation and training.
  • Communicate with staff, visitors, and coworkers using customer-service skills.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels of supplies, equipment, resources, tools, and forms.
  • Maintain case turnover within established department standards by maintaining workflow and prioritizing patient care.
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, documentation, and professionalism.
  • Maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance consistent with applicable policies and standards.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
