Requirements
  • A Master's degree or 15 graduate credit hours in a related discipline, such as Commercial/Graphic Art, Graphic Design, or an equivalent field.
  • At least two years of college-level teaching experience.
  • Graduate work in Commercial/Graphic Art or a closely related field with appropriate experience.
  • A background in print design.
  • Experience using and teaching Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Flash.
  • Familiarity with Cinema 4D, Final Cut Pro, and typography.
  • Proficiency with the latest Mac operating system.
  • A published website or websites on the internet and a strong portfolio or body of work.
  • Knowledge of multimedia design, including websites, videos, 3D design, and interactive websites.
  • Knowledge of and ability to integrate appropriate teaching practices for diverse learners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Blackboard, Owens email, and other required programs.
  • Written and oral communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, computer use, multitasking, organization, and graphic design skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse students, integrate diverse teaching methodologies, understand community college student needs, manage a classroom, follow instructions and deadlines, provide constructive feedback, and evaluate student work fairly.
  • Ability to embody the Owens Core Values and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching, interpersonal skills, organization, patience, and flexibility.
Responsibilities
  • Develop a syllabus, evaluation procedure, and assignment calendar in accordance with the assigned syllabus shell and course outline.
  • Prepare lesson plans and conduct classes during scheduled times using department-approved texts.
  • Follow department guidelines for course content and teaching practices.
  • Meet all classes on scheduled dates, on time, and for the fully allotted time.
  • Respect Owens Community College Standards for Web Instruction when teaching online.
  • Use appropriate classroom management techniques and technology.
  • Create and evaluate assignments, assessments, and activities appropriate to each class.
  • Assign grades and return graded work and posted grades in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and report attendance by published deadlines.
  • Maintain an accurate electronic grade book and submit grades, grade books, attendance records, syllabi, and other requested documents by departmental deadlines.
  • Administer course evaluations as instructed by the College.
  • Use the College course management system for assigned courses and department matters.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite and other Owens-approved, system-compatible programs as required.
  • Access the Owens email account at least every other day, respond to required messages within 48 hours, and check the campus mailbox at least weekly.
  • Respond to student inquiries outside class in a timely manner.
  • Attend department and College workshops, training sessions, development activities, and meetings as needed.
  • Participate in student learning assessment activities.
  • Incorporate programs and projects into the curriculum while meeting course learning outcomes established by Owens.
  • Write and administer quizzes and tests periodically throughout the semester.
  • Work with other faculty to analyze and improve program assessment and maintain consistency across courses.
  • Perform other assigned departmental duties.
  • Support the College, School of Arts and Sciences, and Owens missions, visions, and core values.
  • Display professional and collegial behavior toward students, colleagues, supervisors, and the college community.
