Renault issues fire risk recall for Captur and Symbioz hybrid vehicles.

Renault issues fire risk recall for Captur and Symbioz hybrid vehicles. A busbar-to-relay concern in the traction battery can heat up the cells, increasing the risk of a fire in certain Renault Captur and Symbioz hybrids Published: 20 Oct 2026, 10:33 UTC - By: Photo: Renault A small number of Captur and Symbioz crossovers are being recalled in Europe because of a potentially compromised busbar-to-relay connection inside the traction battery. A bad joint in the high-voltage battery of a hybrid vehicle is not the kind of thing you or even Renault ignore. Per the European Commission's Safety Gate rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products, the recall covers Captur and Symbioz hybrids produced between December 1, 2025, and February 6, 2026. The French automaker uses 0FDZ to identify said campaign. The vehicles in question are based on the CMF-B platform, with both the Captur and Symbioz hailing from the Valladolid plant in Spain. Although they are identical in many respects, the Captur is a bit shorter than its brother. Featuring an extended overhang, the wagon-like Symbioz offers a bit more luggage space while retaining the Captur's wheelbase. Regarding the problem per se, the busbar is the conductive bar that carries current within the battery. A relay creates resistance at the joint, and resistance turns current into heat. Too much of it, and the lithium-ion battery could very well sign off in a ball of fire. The Safety Gate description of the problem reads that abnormal heating of the connection and battery cells may result in a fire, but no such fires have been reported thus far in the European space. Renault's local subsidiaries will send owners registered letters asking them to book a service appointment. Photo: Renault The fix should take no more than four hours and 30 minutes, traction battery inspection included. Renault is most certainly offering courtesy vehicles during the downtime period. As of this writing, the Symbioz hybrid is sold in France as the E-Tech 160 with 158 mechanical ponies to its name. It's joined by a lower-output gasoline and bi-fuel version with 120 chevaux-vapeur. Instead of 29,990 euros for the Eco-G with the manual box, the full-hybrid model retails at 34,400 euros. The Captur sits below it, with prices kicking off at 26,800 euros for the Eco-G and 27,300 euros for the TCe. Upgrading to the noticeably more frugal hybrid means 30,500 euros from the outset. Competing against the Peugeot 2008, Toyota Yaris Cross, and the Volkswagen T-Roc, the Captur is one of the best-selling crossovers in France. It and the Symbioz maintain consistent placement in the country's top 20 best sellers, with Renault being the leading automotive brand in France. The group as a whole experienced a successful year in 2025, driven by strong demand for electrified vehicles in the core brand's home market. Renault alone sold more than a million vehicles across the continent, ranking second overall, while French registrations totaled nearly 285,600 vehicles in 2025. When it comes to best-selling passenger vehicle overall in France, the Renault Clio made easy work of second-placed Peugeot 208 and third-placed Dacia Sandero. Liked the article? Renault Duster Hybrid finally launched at Rs 16.99 lakh.

Renault Duster Hybrid finally launched at Rs 16.99 lakh. The Duster Hybrid comes with a 1.8-litre engine, a 1.4 kWh battery pack and a claimed fuel efficiency of 29 kpl. October 17, 2026 10 months after announcing the Duster Hybrid, Renault has finally launched it at Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The hybrid is the third powertrain that's available with the midsize SUV, following the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol. It is available in three variants - Evolution, Techno and Emotion - and prices go up to Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Duster Hybrid is powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine, mated to two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. Renault claims that combined (petrol + e-motor), the Duster Hybrid has a range of more than 1400 km on a full tank. The combined output is rated at 158 bhp, and the electric motor is capable of 208 Nm of torque. Renault is also claiming a fuel efficiency figure of 29 kpl. Renault has also added a Formula 1-inspired technology for the automatic transmission. It has two electric gears and four engine gears. It also gets six drive modes - all-electric, energy recovery, petrol only, charging via petrol engine, series parallel hybrid and series hybrid. All of these modes are achieved through 15 different combinations from the two types of gears in the transmission. Cosmetically, the only changes on the Duster Hybrid include an illuminated Duster logo on the grille and a new dark brown interior (and both changes are exclusive to the Duster Hybrid). Otherwise, the Duster Hybrid is identical to the standard Duster. Another change is the lack of ADAS on the hybrid powertrain and a 360-degree camera. Compared to its hybrid rivals, the Duster Hybrid is cheaper than the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris' starting price is Rs 6,000 less than the Duster's, but the top-spec variant is Rs 50,000 more expensive.

Renault Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 launched at Rs 16.99 lakh.

Renault Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 launched at Rs 16.99 lakh. - October 17, 2026 Renault has launched the Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 at a starting price of Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the first E-Tech model from the brand in the country. It comes with an ARAI-certified mileage of 29 km/l without the need for any plug-in charging. Bookings are open for a token amount of Rs 21,000. Let's check what the new hybrid Duster offers. Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 powertrain. The Duster Strong Hybrid uses Renault's new-generation fully strong hybrid setup. It combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery, which together deliver a maximum system output of 160 PS. The peak motor torque is 208 Nm. Renault has also fitted a Formula 1-inspired multi-mode automatic gearbox with 2 EV gears and 4 petrol gears. This gives a total of 15 drive combinations, which should make the drive smoother and more responsive. The SUV always starts in EV mode, and since it is a strong hybrid, there is no plug and no charging stop. | / | Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 | | Engine | 1.8-litre petrol | | Electric motors | 2 | | Battery | 1.4 kWh | | System power | 160 PS | | Peak motor torque | 208 Nm | | Gearbox | Multi-mode automatic, 2 EV and 4 petrol gears | | Drive combinations | 15 | | ARAI mileage | 29 km/l | Duster Strong Hybrid mileage and performance. Renault claims the Duster Strong Hybrid can run in pure EV mode for up to 80 per cent of city driving. This helps it save up to 30 per cent in fuel compared to a diesel SUV. The E-Save mode preserves battery energy for later use, and the regenerative braking system recovers energy during deceleration. On performance, Renault claims best-in-segment acceleration. It goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.61 seconds and from 80 to 120 kmph in 10.16 seconds, both with the AC off. Renault has also compared the hybrid's 29 km/l with the ARAI figures of its diesel rivals. Duster Strong Hybrid cooling, ride and safety. Renault has paid attention to cooling as well. The Duster Strong Hybrid gets an advanced E-compressor for faster cabin cooling and more precise temperature control. It maintains full cooling capacity at idle and in stop-and-go traffic, independent of engine speed. It also uses the AC system to cool the battery through a dedicated chiller plate, which Renault says is a first in the segment. The SUV also gets FDD suspension technology, tuned for a smoother and more controlled ride. For safety, it is built on the Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP), which has been validated for extreme conditions. Warranty. Renault offers an 8-year or 1.6 lakh km battery warranty on the Duster Strong Hybrid, which should add confidence for long-term ownership. Price and rivals. The Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 starts at Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The regular turbo-petrol Duster starts at Rs 10.49 lakh. In the strong hybrid space, it will rival the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and Maruti Victoris.

VW's Blume says Europe's mass-market carmakers face "enormous pressure" from China

Europe's mass-market carmakers face "enormous pressure" from Chinese competition and a changing market, Volkswagen chief executive Oliver Blume said on Tuesday. He renewed calls for more flexible regulation and incentives for local manufacturing. Speaking at an event alongside the Paris motor show, Blume said Volkswagen, Stellantis and Renault, which together make more than 60% of Europe's cars, must build affordable electric vehicles while keeping costs under control. "We cannot build our future on export profits alone," he said. Blume is pushing through the biggest restructuring in Volkswagen's history, including tens of thousands of job cuts and possible factory closures, despite union opposition. Chinese brands are attending the show in record numbers, raising concern among European manufacturers about low-cost imports.

Renault targets 2028 for first Korea-built EV.

Renault targets 2028 for first Korea-built EV. Published: Oct. 13, 2026 - 15:13:31 Updated: Oct. 13, 2026 - 15:30:18 Ahn Sung-mi French automaker Renault Group plans to launch a South Korean-made electric vehicle with advanced driver-assistance technology in 2028, as it accelerates electrification and looks to boost exports from its Busan plant. The company will introduce a new hybrid model in 2027 before rolling out the EV the following year, Renault executives said during an interview with Korean reporters at the 2026 Paris Motor Show on Monday, where the automaker unveiled its new electric van concept E-Space. "South Korea is a very important and strategic market for us," said Ivan Segal, global sales and operations director of the Renault Brand, emphasizing the need to broaden the company's lineup beyond its existing hybrid offerings. Segal pointed to rising demand for electrified vehicles in South Korea, saying the company must strengthen its electric vehicle portfolio to remain competitive. Renault currently produces hybrid-powered models at its Busan plant, including the Grand Kolos SUV and the Filante crossover, but has yet to manufacture a full electric model of its own at the facility. Philippe Brunet, Renault Group's chief technology officer, said the automaker intends to equip the next-generation EV with the advanced system as part of its broader push to integrate artificial intelligence into vehicle technology. "That is our intention," Brunet said when asked whether the 2028 model would feature Level 2++ capabilities, which permit hands-off driving while still requiring driver supervision. He added that Renault would adopt Level 2+ or Level 2++ technology depending on the vehicle model, while also developing its own urban navigation-assisted driving system, known as City NOA. "We need to reach as many customers as possible, and to do that, we must be competitive, particularly on price," Brunet said. "That doesn't mean we want to build inexpensive cars. We aim to offer the latest technology at competitive prices. That is our priority." Renault also aims to make its Busan plant a bigger global production and export hub, especially for midsize and larger vehicles. Segal described the facility as one of the group's most competitive manufacturing sites for C and D segment vehicles, stressing its potential to serve markets beyond South Korea. "Our priority is to meet demand in the Korean market through the Busan plant," Segal said, adding that the facility is capable of producing vehicles for export worldwide. The company sees South America as a promising destination, particularly Colombia, which has a free trade agreement with South Korea. Europe could also emerge as a potential export destination, he added. [email protected]
