Requirements
- A Master's Degree is required.
- The candidate must be a graduate of a master's in science in Nursing with an approved ARNP curriculum or higher.
- Florida licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner from the Florida Board of Nursing is required.
- Board certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner from a nationally accredited organization such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
- The candidate must exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
- The candidate must complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- The candidate must analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- The candidate must work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
- The candidate must communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Responsibilities
- Deliver medical care to a wide variety of patients and independently examine and treat patients in autonomous collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery; prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests as permitted within scope of practice.
- Perform and document complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
- Perform age-appropriate patient histories and physical examinations independently.
- Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient age-specific needs.
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
- Implement interventions to help patients regain or maintain physiologic stability.
- Provide care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
- Monitor the effectiveness of clinical interventions.
- Facilitate patient transitions between healthcare settings, including admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and make appropriate referrals.
- Provide educational tools to support staff, patient, and family decision-making.
- Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
- Perform patient assessments, including medical history and physical examination, and develop plans of care in collaboration with the physician mentor for patients with neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma, and other eye conditions.
- Provide continued care for non-acute neuro patients and non-acute cornea, retina, and glaucoma patients.
- Facilitate visual fields, refractions, and other testing.
- Facilitate referrals to subspecialties and process other referral requests.
- Route international patients and second-opinion requests.
- Answer patient questions and emails.
- Review records in advance of physician review.
- Complete telehealth visits.
- Measure prisms.
- Determine and render advanced nursing and medical interventions for a select group of patients.
- Assess patients by interviewing and examining them, reviewing medical histories, physician diagnoses and orders, and diagnostic test results to determine diagnoses, plans of care, and patient progress.
- Review medical records, physician and consultation notes, laboratory results, and diagnostic test results.
- Formulate medical diagnoses and collaborate with physicians through discussion and assessment of diagnoses.
- Develop, document, and coordinate plans of care and identify expected outcomes.
- Provide patient and family education about disease processes, treatment options, treatment outcomes, possible complications, medications, discharge planning, and lifestyle modification.
- Institute actions outlined in plans of care, implement physician orders according to protocols, and communicate plans of care to team members.
- Assist with family dynamics and coping mechanisms during patient care.
- Participate in performance improvement activities supporting the mental health needs of the patient population.
- Evaluate patient progress toward expected outcomes through follow-up with collaborating physicians and assessment of physical findings, laboratory results, and diagnostic test results.
- Formulate revised plans of care based on evaluation.
- Consult with collaborating physicians regarding implementation, evaluation, and revision of treatment plans.
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Facilitate communication between nursing staff and physicians through leadership skills and on-unit mentoring.
- Collaborate with the education department and unit leadership team to plan educational opportunities and competency evaluations for nursing staff.
- Conduct or participate in multidisciplinary rounds and ensure appropriate, quality patient care.
- Rotate and refer patients to support services as needed.
- Initiate or participate in hospital research activities.
- Use research findings and nursing theory in clinical practice.
- Promote evidence-based and knowledge-based nursing practice.
- Collect data for patient and program evaluation and participate in quality assessment and improvement activities.
