Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or another relevant field is required.
  • Two to three years of relevant academic advising experience, including supervisory experience, is required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with various software applications is required.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a caseload of students and provide overall guidance on their academic goals.
  • Interpret and explain academic policies and procedures to students.
  • Monitor students' academic progress and performance to ensure timely completion of degree requirements.
  • Refer students to faculty, staff, and support offices.
  • Manage the Oakland Advising team on a day-to-day basis.
  • Hire, supervise, mentor, and train Academic Advisors.
  • Maintain student records and update appropriate advising platforms.
  • Assist with orientation.
  • Represent Oakland campus advising on relevant committees.
  • Help the advising team troubleshoot issues relating to students and parents.
  • Collaborate with the Director to increase the quality of student support and develop retention strategies supporting university goals.
  • Maintain relationships with campus and university departments, including the Registrar, Student Financial Services, WeCare, University Health, and Counselling.
  • Implement strategic advising plans based on assessment and evaluation of data.
  • Teach introductory courses.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop syllabi and course content.
  • Grade materials submitted by students, maintain attendance records, and issue final grades.
