Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children of different grade levels.
  • A high school diploma or qualifications deemed appropriate by the Board.
  • Comfort redirecting inappropriate behavior from scholars when needed.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure and perform responsibilities under pressure.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality about scholars when personal situations arise.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment and interact positively with scholars representing a diverse range of behaviors and needs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time (2+ hours).
  • Willingness to engage in light cleaning tasks, such as collecting trash and helping clean tables, and assisting young scholars with lunches, such as opening milk cartons.
  • Willingness to work indoors and outdoors, including during cold weather and light precipitation.
  • Flexibility.
Responsibilities
  • Guide groups of students to and from the lunchroom, classroom, and/or play area in a single-file line, and redirect behavior when needed, including maintaining quiet in hallways, keeping hands to themselves, and staying in line.
  • Help maintain an orderly and safe atmosphere in the cafeteria, during indoor or outdoor recess, and in the aftercare classroom by helping and supervising students.
  • Ensure scholars remain seated in assigned areas throughout lunch or aftercare.
  • Remind and redirect scholars about expectations for safe and respectful behavior in the cafeteria, recess areas, and aftercare classroom.
  • Help keep cafeteria tables clean for the next meal seating or class.
  • Stay with assigned classes during shifts unless directed otherwise.
  • Accompany scholars during transitions to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Offer homework help during aftercare classes.
  • Circulate in classrooms to ensure scholars follow school rules.
  • Clean classrooms after aftercare classes are dismissed.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
