Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field is required, although an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for students at the respective grade level is required.
  • The candidate must be able and willing to work with students of the specified age level who have diverse backgrounds and levels of ability.
  • The candidate must be able to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines.
  • The candidate must be able to manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment.
  • The candidate must communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators, and other staff, including when discussing sensitive topics.
  • The role requires the ability to work in an office or school environment and potentially in non-standard workplaces.
  • The role may require evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a substitute teacher at the elementary, middle, and/or high school levels on an as-needed basis.
  • Provide academic support for students enrolled in online courses when required.
  • Provide academic support for students working independently on assignments, projects, or independent study.
  • Travel to various locations, including neighboring islands, to conduct business when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Recent teaching experience, coursework, or other activity in the area of primary instruction.
  • Knowledge of current instructional strategies appropriate for students at the specified grade level.
  • Previous experience teaching the age levels and subject areas of the specific teaching position.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture.
  • Prior teaching experience at the middle school level.
