About the company

Intel designs and manufactures semiconductor chips, with a focus on microprocessors for personal computers, servers, and other devices. Its core product is the CPU on a single silicon chip, which executes instructions, handles arithmetic and logic operations, and coordinates the work of other computer components. Intel originated in memory chips but shifted decisively to microprocessors in the 1980s, becoming a central supplier for the PC era after the IBM partnership and its famous x86 processor line. This shift, large-scale manufacturing, and close ties with computer makers set Intel apart from competitors who remained focused on memory or other components. The company aims to power computing by delivering high-performance, energy-efficient silicon solutions that drive a wide range of computing devices and applications.

TSMC reportedly weighs 10%-20% CoWoS price rise, a warning sign for Intel's packaging push

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) may raise prices for its chip-on-wafer-on-substrate (CoWoS) packaging by 10% to 20%, according to reports. Demand from artificial intelligence (AI) chips, server CPUs, and custom chips is straining capacity. TSMC has not confirmed the increase. Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson said the move would suggest less competitive pressure from Intel's EMIB-T packaging technology, which Intel is pitching as an alternative. Customers may still pay a premium for TSMC, making it harder for Intel to compete on price and capacity. Intel shares closed at $95.53 on October 28, and the company reports third-quarter earnings on October 29. Bryson rates the stock "Hold" with a $98 price target.

$2T wiped from Nasdaq-100 in October as AI spending fears hit Alphabet and Amazon

More than $2 trillion in Nasdaq-100 market value evaporated in October 2026 as investors questioned whether heavy AI spending will pay off. On October 30 alone, the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.9% and the S&P 500 dropped 1.8%. Alphabet shares fell more than 12% in one session, erasing roughly $500 billion, according to Reuters. The company spent about $51 billion on capital expenditures in the quarter, leaving roughly $9 billion in negative free cash flow. Amazon reported negative free cash flow of $42.4 billion for the 12 months ended September 30, 2026, against positive $14.8 billion a year earlier. It expects about $220 billion in capital expenditures for 2026. Microsoft remained cash-flow positive; Meta did not. Investors now watch AMD and Nvidia earnings for signs of strong chip demand.

Tech stocks tumble as AI fears collide with earnings misses.

Tech stocks tumble as AI fears collide with earnings misses. Tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index falls 3.5%, notching its worst month since March 2025 Published Sat, Oct 31, 2026 · 12:35 PM * Amazon shares slump 1.4%, as its AI spending plans and lagging e-commerce business overshadow solid growth in cloud sales. PHOTO: REUTERS [NEW YORK] Tech stocks plunged on Friday (Oct 30) for the second day in a row as fears around artificial intelligence spending collide with disappointing earnings in big tech's core businesses. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index fell 3.5 per cent, notching its worst month since March 2025, after falling as much as 4.5 per cent into correction territory. The S&P 500 fell 1.8 per cent. Investors are showing waning tolerance for tech companies that are seeing their legacy businesses falter, especially given their massive capital expenditure plans. Alphabet and Amazon.com's results spiked fears that those core segments are being cannibalised by the very technology the firms are betting the house on. Amazon shares slumped 1.4 per cent, as the company's AI spending plans and lagging e-commerce business overshadowed solid growth in cloud sales in the eyes of investors after it reported earnings on Thursday. The results dragged all of the Magnificent 7 lower. The market reacted similarly to Alphabet's results on Wednesday. The Google parent reported search and advertising sales that reinforced investor concerns about AI's threat to its core business, sending its shares down 13 per cent at the close Thursday - the biggest drop ever for the stock - while the Nasdaq 100 fell 1.4 per cent. "The weakness in their core businesses is a new wrinkle in the debate about whether the return on investment on AI is going to come quickly enough to justify euphoria surrounding this technology," said Matt Maley, chief market strategist at Miller Tabak & Co. The business times turns 50. Five decades of milestones and moments that shaped Singapore's success story - told through our headlines. Explore BT50" Meanwhile, Intel saw its worst one-day drop on record after the chipmaker reported a revenue forecast that missed analysts' estimates, hurt by sputtering demand for PC processors and supply-chain problems with its lucrative data centre components. Shares fell 29 per cent. Intel's rivals Advanced Micro Devices and Nvidia were down 11 per cent and 4.2 per cent, respectively, while Dell Technologies, which makes PCs, fell 11 per cent. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 7.2 per cent, plunging below its 200-day moving average for the first time since June 2025. Overall, the recent results have erased the Nasdaq 100's gains at the beginning of this week. The market had initially reacted positively to a slew of big tech news, including Anthropic's highly anticipated initial public offering filing, Meta Platforms' more than US$95 billion capital raise, and SpaceX's US$40 billion equipment-finance lease to pay for AI chip purchases. All that rosiness has now turned to fear as the market assesses if it can stomach an AI infrastructure buildout that is turning free cashflows negative and that relies on heavy borrowing. "The bigger question that still remains is will the weakness in tech spillover to the broad market, or can the game of musical chairs continue?" Jonathan Krinsky, chief market technician at BTIG, wrote in a note. "A correlation-one style selloff continues to be elusive, but the set-up for it into November is now more likely, in our view." For now, investors are looking towards other parts of the market. The S&P 500 Equal Weight Index gained 1.2 per cent on Thursday, while around 400 stocks in the benchmark index were positive. In fact, every sector in the S&P 500 is in the green this month except for communication services and information technology, and October was the best month for consumer staples since October 2000. But tech's heavy weighting in both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 could start to erode them, especially in the face of uncertainty surrounding the midterm elections next week. "If the major averages start to fall, investors will likely start to rotate towards cash instead of other sectors, especially with all of the 'bubble' talk they've heard over the past year," Maley said. Other areas of tech are being punished, too. Roblox shares fell 18 per cent after reporting daily active users that came in below estimates, and Reddit shares slumped 29 per cent in the worst drop on record after announcing plans to limit access to its online user forums to users with accounts. Outside of tech, ExxonMobil reported earnings before the bell on Friday that surpassed expectations on the strength of surging gasoline and diesel prices that pushed refining results to an all-time high. The shares gained 2.2 per cent. Chevron also beat expectations, sending shares up 1.8 per cent. BLOOMBERG Share with us your feedback on BT's products and services

Tech selloff wipes $1T off Nasdaq 100 as Intel plunges 30% on AI spending fears

Big Tech stocks fell sharply this week as investors worried that heavy spending on artificial intelligence (AI) won't pay off soon. The Nasdaq 100 dropped roughly 4%, wiping out more than $1 trillion in value, while the S&P 500 fell more than 2% on Friday afternoon. Intel's stock plunged more than 30% to roughly $62 after it gave a weak fourth-quarter outlook. ServiceNow fell 27% on Thursday after weaker-than-expected third-quarter results. Amazon, Alphabet and Meta also dropped after earnings; Amazon reported negative free cash flow of $42 billion. S&P 500 earnings growth has slipped to roughly 26% from 32% in the second quarter. Some investors are trimming tech gains to buy cheaper stocks elsewhere, though analysts such as Dan Ives remain optimistic about tech's long-term prospects.

Goldman cuts Intel target 33% to $100 as memory crunch hits PC demand

Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan warned of an "unprecedented memory crunch" hurting PC demand, as Goldman Sachs cut its price target for the chipmaker by 33.3%, from $150 to $100. The AI boom is pulling memory production towards server chips, leaving less for ordinary computers. Intel's client computing sales fell 9% from the previous quarter to $8.1 billion, and it expects the global PC market to shrink about 12% in units in 2026. Intel forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion, against Wall Street's expectation of roughly $17.1 billion. Goldman kept a Neutral rating, while Jefferies cut its target to $85 and Bank of America downgraded Intel to Neutral. Intel's chief financial officer does not expect memory supply to improve during 2027.
