Requirements
  • Bilingual ability is preferred.
  • A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist designation is required.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • A flexible schedule is required to meet participant needs.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions and physical requirements of the job, including lifting participants or equipment, bending, pushing or pulling, and kneeling, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to physically access any home, including navigating stairs and narrow spaces and tolerating heat and lack of air conditioning.
  • Ability to use equipment with visual and auditory mechanisms.
  • Must provide a negative tuberculosis certificate annually or documentation supporting an exemption.
  • At least two years of professional therapeutic recreation work experience, including at least one year working with frail and elderly populations.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and implement creative, individualized, and therapeutic activities for participants' care plans.
  • Conduct initial assessments and scheduled reassessments of all participants.
  • Train staff on new recreational therapy activities and programs.
  • Plan and offer varied monthly programs and use group- and individual-oriented interventions to maximize participants' cognitive and functional abilities.
  • Offer therapeutic activities daily for participants with special needs.
  • Document participant involvement in activities and revise care plans as needed.
  • Participate in team discussions and staff meetings by offering feedback, ideas, and suggestions.
  • Serve as a resource to staff and coordinate volunteer activities at the center.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supervising staff is preferred.
