How 3 telcos solved data challenges with Databricks for operational success

How 3 telcos solved data challenges with Databricks for operational success. By Ryan Neal Telecommunications providers face massive data volumes, fragmented legacy systems, brittle pipelines, and strict governance requirements that make modernization and AI adoption difficult. Disconnected warehouses, Hadoop clusters, OSS and BSS systems, and siloed cloud environments limit visibility, increase cost, and slow innovation. At the same time, telcos must improve customer retention, optimize network performance, and reduce total cost of ownership while scaling AI initiatives. Databricks enables telcos to unify structured and unstructured data on a governed lakehouse platform, eliminating silos and creating a shared foundation for analytics and AI. With Unity Catalog, Serverless compute, Agent Bricks, and Lakebase, telcos can scale AI from isolated models to real time operational intelligence embedded directly into customer, network, and planning workflows. In partnership with Databricks, Blueprint helped telcos modernize legacy estates, implement data best practices, and operationalize AI across the enterprise. Modern data estate transformation. The problem. A global telecommunications provider was struggling with fragmented line of business applications built on legacy platforms. Data access patterns were inconsistent, governance was decentralized, performance was degrading, and infrastructure costs were rising. The CDO needed to modernize the estate while strengthening collaboration with application owners and improving measurable performance outcomes. The solution. Blueprint partnered with the CDO organization to transition critical workloads onto Unity Catalog and Serverless on Databricks. Blueprint Technologies, LLC. rearchitected applications to centralize processing, eliminated redundant compute layers, standardized governance, and implemented scalable execution patterns. The outcome. * 60 percent increase in application performance * Centralized governance and lineage across domains * Reduced infrastructure sprawl through architectural consolidation * Lower total cost of ownership through Serverless and simplified operations * Stronger partnership between the CDO organization and business application teams AI factory and intelligent retention. A regional telecom provider faced rising churn and inconsistent retention outcomes. Churn models were static, refreshed infrequently, and disconnected from frontline workflows. Customer support teams lacked timely visibility into at risk accounts and had no embedded guidance on next best offers. Blueprint implemented an AI Factory on Databricks to unify customer, billing, usage, and service quality data and standardize feature engineering and model lifecycle management. Blueprint Technologies, LLC. embedded real time churn intelligence and next best offer logic directly into support workflows, enabling explainable AI driven recommendations during live interactions. * More accurate and timely churn prediction * Real time next best offer recommendations embedded into support systems * Reduced blanket incentives through improved targeting * Measurable churn reduction and improved retention ROI Accelerated migration and operational AI. A national telecommunications provider was operating on Oracle and Informatica, facing escalating licensing costs, rigid architectures, and limited scalability for AI initiatives. Legacy pipelines were complex and tightly coupled, making modernization high risk and expensive. Using its Brickbuilder approved Accelerated Data Migration solution, Blueprint automated the conversion of complex workflows to Databricks and Unity Catalog, ensuring validated parity and centralized governance. Blueprint Technologies, LLC. then extended the architecture with Lakebase for low latency operational data access and Agent Bricks to enable AI driven contextual reasoning embedded into frontline systems. * Consolidation of legacy platforms onto a unified Databricks architecture * Improved pipeline and application performance * Reduced total cost of ownership through architectural simplification * Real time serving of churn scores, next best actions, and operational insights * AI driven contextual recommendations embedded into CRM, network, and operational systems Realizing the future of telecom data. By standardizing on Databricks and partnering with Blueprint, telecommunications providers can modernize their data estates, reduce cost and complexity, and embed AI directly into operational workflows. The result is a unified, governed, high performance platform that improves retention, reliability, and efficiency across the telecom value chain while enabling a sustainable AI driven operating model. If your organization is ready to move beyond isolated data models and start building a production-ready AI factory, Blueprint can help.
