Requirements
  • Experience as a paralegal, qualified lawyer or equivalent, experienced Compliance officer, or experience in data handling and management.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and validate data; perform quality control on large volumes of data; create management information based on business needs; and read and understand data at both macro and micro level.
  • Experience working in the financial services sector within a Legal or Compliance function, or similar.
  • Strong capability in identifying and tracking issues or themes arising through processes in which the Legal Inventory Management team is engaged.
  • Strong background in creating and enhancing controls and procedures within an organization.
  • Ability to identify improvements to a risk and control framework and provide appropriate challenge.
  • Ability to assimilate information quickly and synthesize insights and inputs from multiple workstreams and teams on complex subject matter, and form impartial, effective and strategic conclusions.
  • Ability to deliver consistently to a high standard against competing priorities and plan and manage a portfolio of multiple tasks and projects through to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build and manage an effective internal and external stakeholder network.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and SharePoint skills, with confidence using the Microsoft Office suite.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement best-practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance.
  • Provide legal advice and support to the business on regulatory affairs, including regulatory compliance, risk management and transactional matters.
  • Provide subject-matter support to the Legal department in representing the bank in legal proceedings related to regulatory matters, including litigation, arbitration and regulatory investigations.
  • Review relevant legislation and regulation and create and review legal documents, where applicable, to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to stay current on changes in laws and regulations affecting the bank’s operations.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on applicable legal and regulatory requirements related to the bank’s operations.
  • Identify, communicate and provide legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations; maintain current knowledge of changes in the relevant coverage area; and ensure that laws, rules and regulations are effectively allocated to and reflected in relevant policies, standards and controls.
  • Support the Legal Inventory Management Directors and global team members with the development and maintenance of Barclays laws, rules and regulations inventories.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to assist with embedding Barclays’ laws, rules and regulations risk management framework.
  • Support the sustainable implementation and embedding of roles and responsibilities for Barclays lawyers in relation to laws, rules and regulations risk, working with Business and Chief Controls teams, Risk and Compliance.
  • Assist with the development, management and maintenance of laws, rules and regulations inventories.
  • Assist with maintaining and operating legal procedures relating to laws, rules and regulations risk management, including the global inventory procedure.
  • Create and produce appropriate management information for senior governance forums.
  • Develop knowledge relating to Legal Inventory Management team activities and new laws, rules and regulations.
  • Provide feedback and input to Technology for functionality of databases housing the laws, rules and regulations inventories.
  • Provide input to data governance and quality-control requirements for the laws, rules and regulations inventories.
  • Support training of global Legal function colleagues on laws, rules and regulations risk management and the Legal function’s role in that process.
  • Support collaboration across the global Legal function to enhance consistency of laws, rules and regulations interpretation.
  • Provide support to lawyers globally on remediation activity relating to laws, rules and regulations risk.
  • Collaborate across the Legal function and with organizational stakeholders to ensure that laws, rules and regulations are effectively allocated to and reflected in relevant policies, standards and controls.
  • Support special projects, remediations and enhancements in laws, rules and regulations interpretation and controls.
  • Support an effective laws, rules and regulations risk and control culture, reinforce the importance of managing and escalating risk, and support Chief Controls Office, Compliance and Internal Audit oversight.
  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management, on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the team’s work.
  • Collaborate with other work areas and aligned support areas to maintain awareness of business activity and strategies.
  • Create solutions through sophisticated analytical thought, comparing and selecting complex alternatives, defining problems and developing innovative solutions.
  • Incorporate extensive research outcomes into problem-solving processes.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish business objectives using influencing and negotiating skills.

  • Good understanding of a risk and control framework, including, if applicable, Barclays laws, rules and regulations risk management framework, and of the legal and regulatory landscape within which Barclays operates.
  • Ability to make recommendations for and implement change.
  • Ability to proactively collaborate across different teams and geographies within and beyond the Legal function.

Housing Plus Group secures $1.2B funding package to invest in homes and communities

Housing Plus Group has secured £961 million in funding from five banking partners to invest in existing homes, deliver new properties, and strengthen communities. The social housing provider partnered with Nationwide, NatWest, Santander, AIB, and Barclays for the financing, supported by advisers Savills and Trowers & Hamlins. The package builds on £806 million of existing facilities, bringing the Group's total loan portfolio to over £1.3 billion. The refinancing simplifies the organisation's treasury structure whilst reducing financial risk and costs. Interim Chief Finance Officer Richard Nowell called it "a transformative moment" that improves financial resilience and creates capacity for customer investment. Group Chief Executive Wayne Gethings said the funding enables continued investment in homes and neighbourhoods whilst delivering new properties for future generations.

Barclays names Mike Joo and Adeel Khan investment bank co-CEOs

Barclays has appointed Mike Joo and Adeel Khan as joint chief executives of its investment banking division, effective February 2027 pending regulatory approval. Joo will join from Bank of America, where he served as co-head of global investment banking. He joined the US lender in 2006 after eight years at Credit Suisse, where he was co-head of Asia debt capital markets. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in 1995. Khan currently oversees Barclays' global markets business and has been co-head of the investment bank since 2021. He joined Barclays in 2008 and has over 25 years' experience in financial services. Previously, Khan worked at BlueBay Asset Management, running the firm's credit hedge fund. Both executives will serve on the group executive committee.

Winvia Entertainment secures $42M Barclays loan to fuel UK prize draw market consolidation

Winvia Entertainment has secured a £33 million three-year term loan from Barclays Bank, replacing its previous Eurobank facility. The AIM-listed company, which operates in UK prize draws and Romanian online gaming, also obtained a £5 million revolving acquisition facility with an uncommitted accordion option to increase it by up to £15 million. As of 30 June 2026, Winvia reported a net cash balance of approximately £31.8 million. The company is the second-largest UK prize draw operator by market share, running brands including Best of the Best, Click Competitions, and Rev Comps. The refinancing aims to support Winvia's consolidation strategy in the fragmented UK prize draw market. Chief Financial Officer Simon Hay said the arrangement establishes "a secure, long term capital structure with low leverage".
