The Policy and Regulatory Affairs (PRA) program directly engages on behalf of Remitly in a nonpartisan manner with global policymakers, regulators, and other third parties to educate and provide perspectives on our business, the future of remittances, and digital financial services.
About the Role:
As the Head of EMEA and APAC Policy and Regulatory Affairs you will lead our PRA function for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and represent Remitly before policymakers and government stakeholders in the EMEA region. As business needs arise, you will also provide ad hoc support in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The successful candidate will proactively develop strategies to enable business priorities in this region, build relationships with key policymakers, government stakeholders and influential third parties, and will interface directly with the relevant business teams to be able to authoritatively represent all aspects of Remitly’s business in the regions. An entrepreneurial spirit, willingness to deeply understand cross border payments issues and regulations and experience with policy maker engagement are required.
You Will:
- Develop, lead, and implement public policy and government affairs strategies for Remitly designed to drive outcomes in financial services policy that beneficially impact our business and our customers.
- Advance the company’s policy positions directly and through industry associations to enable a competitive and fintech-friendly regulatory environment.
- Evaluate and report on potential regulatory risks and opportunities, develop mitigation or enhancement strategies and policy positions, and coordinate external advocacy and outreach programs and key initiatives.
- Facilitate meetings between the Head of PRA, Remitly executives, and key stakeholders, including government officials, regulators, industry associations and coalition partners to promote advocacy positions.
- Raise awareness among government officials, policymakers and regulators about Remitly, our business, and public policy positions that will work to enhance the speed, safety, and reduce the cost of remittances.
- Work collaboratively and transparently with the business to ensure alignment between public policy goals and core business objectives.
- Participate and contribute to EMEA and APAC focused trade associations and coalitions to advance policy and thought-leadership outcomes.
- Manage external consultants with high judgment, ethics, and integrity.
- Manage required external disclosure processes.
You Have:
- 10+ years of experience working directly with policymakers or representing a company, organization (e.g. trade or industry association) on policy advocacy and government affairs matters with policymakers and government stakeholders at the national and local levels.
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline (e.g. Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Affairs, Economic Development).
- Experience managing several overlapping deliverables to meet tight deadlines;
- Experience with executive stakeholder management, influencing outcomes, and summarizing complex information and messaging;
- Strong understanding of important issues related to financial services policy and government affairs strategies;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
