Clinical Educator - Rehab

SUMMARY:

The Clinical Educator – Rehab develops, delivers, and evaluates rehabilitation-specific education, training, and competency programs for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy teams. The role applies clinical rehabilitation expertise to support onboarding, ongoing education, clinical practice standards, and accurate, current training resources.

The Clinical Educator – Rehab also supports process improvement, policy and procedure development, audits, and discipline-specific projects. The role collaborates with rehabilitation professionals, interdisciplinary teams, center leadership, and other departments to promote consistent clinical practices, regulatory compliance, and quality participant care.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

Rehabilitation Education & Competency Development

• Develops and delivers rehabilitation-specific education for Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy teams.
• Develops and coordinates onboarding, orientation, and annual competency programs for rehabilitation employees.
• Leads and participates in training sessions, webinars, workshops, and other educational activities.
• Provides clinical guidance related to rehabilitation assessments, treatment planning, equipment recommendations, and participant and caregiver education.
• Evaluates educational needs and updates training based on changes in clinical practice, organizational requirements, and rehabilitation standards.

Clinical Resources, Policies & Practice Support

• Develops, reviews, and updates rehabilitation training materials, manuals, clinical resources, and related documentation.
• Reviews educational and clinical content for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
• Contributes rehabilitation expertise to the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
• Researches current rehabilitation practices and relevant changes within areas of expertise to support accurate and current guidance.
• Serves as a clinical resource to employees and leaders by responding to questions and providing discipline-specific consultation.

Quality, Compliance & Process Improvement

• Identifies opportunities to improve rehabilitation workflows, clinical practices, education, and related processes.
• Supports implementation of process improvements in collaboration with appropriate departments and operational leaders.
• Participates in rehabilitation audits, regulatory readiness activities, and other compliance-related reviews.
• Supports corrective education, training, and competency activities identified through audits, reviews, or performance needs.
• Provides rehabilitation expertise for discipline-specific projects and organizational improvement initiatives.

Collaboration & Operational Support

• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and other departments to support consistent rehabilitation practices and effective implementation of clinical processes.
• Works with center leadership to support rehabilitation education and clinical operations.
• Coordinates with Information Technology and other resources when rehabilitation education or clinical practice requires technical or system support.
• Serves as a rehabilitation resource or subject-matter champion for assigned projects and initiatives.

• Strong clinical knowledge of rehabilitation practices, including assessment, treatment planning, equipment recommendations, and participant-centered care.
• Knowledge of rehabilitation education, competency development, onboarding, and clinical training practices.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain clinical information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Ability to evaluate clinical information, identify educational or practice gaps, and develop effective solutions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution required.
• Current license to practice in the State of Michigan required.
• NBCOT certification required for Occupational Therapists.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist in a PACE program required.
• Demonstrated experience with participant-centered rehabilitation assessment, care planning, treatment, and clinical practice required.
• Experience providing clinical education, training, onboarding, or competency development preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, with regular periods of standing and walking.
• Regular travel to PACE Southeast Michigan locations as needed to provide training, education, clinical support, and competency activities.
• Must successfully complete all required post-offer background checks, drug screening, and health screenings.
• Must meet organizational health requirements for direct or occasional participant contact, including tuberculosis (TB) screening, communicable disease clearance, and required immunizations.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds and perform occasional strenuous physical activity when assisting participants or handling rehabilitation equipment and supplies.
• Ability to safely assist participants with mobility, transfers, and activities of daily living using proper body mechanics and approved assistive devices and equipment.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position while maintaining participant safety and dignity.
