Requirements
  • A Diploma, Associate’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.
  • A licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Must possess interpersonal, problem-solving, and prioritization skills and be able to process information confidentially.
  • Must communicate clearly and effectively with patients, doctors, and other staff and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work independently and function as an integral team member with other healthcare professionals.
  • Must possess computer skills and be able to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems.
  • Must be able to sustain alertness and concentration while performing detailed work and using a computer for 40 to 70 percent of the time; the role regularly involves lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or equivalent pushing, pulling, or handling.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare for patient appointments, maintain documentation standards, and review charts before appointments to ensure requests and documents are available.
  • Prepare patients for examinations by performing assessments, obtaining histories and vital signs, reconciling medications, and conducting routine hearing, vision, or other tests; provide an initial assessment to the physician as needed.
  • Triage calls and determine urgency, the need for appointments, or whether phone advice is sufficient.
  • Assist providers with minor and emergency procedures and examinations, follow physician instructions, and reassure patients during examinations.
  • Under a provider’s direction, schedule tests and procedures in other facility departments and prepare patients by providing appropriate instructions.
  • Document test and procedure results, notify patients of results, and record information appropriately in the medical record.
  • Perform point-of-care laboratory tests as directed by the physician and accurately document required information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Coordinate admissions and referrals and facilitate prescription requests.
  • Provide patients and families with appropriate education about their care under a provider’s direction.
  • Take verbal, telephone, and written medication orders from physicians; administer requested treatments, including ordered oral, intramuscular, or subcutaneous medications, and properly record all data.
  • Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information; record test and assessment results in patient charts.
  • Participate in performance-improvement monitoring, collect and collate quality-of-care data, ensure delivered care meets appropriate standards, and use improvement results to initiate changes in nursing practice.
  • Communicate appropriately with other healthcare team members.
  • Attend required staff and other meetings and participate in ongoing educational activities related to professional knowledge and issues; maintain records evidencing competency and continuing education.
  • Assist with required forms, including Workers’ Compensation, disability, and State of Michigan forms.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to colleagues’ professional development.
  • Stock supplies and maintain examination rooms.
  • Apply knowledge of insurance and referral policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Six to twelve months of healthcare experience is preferred.
