Orchard Robotics designs and sells (and may lease) advanced camera systems paired with AI-powered computer vision software to manage crop load in orchards. The system attaches to tractors or farm vehicles, capturing images of trees and using custom software to size and track visible fruit on every tree. This provides growers with precise data on fruit load, enabling informed decisions to optimize yield and fruit quality. Unlike generic surveillance or imaging tools, Orchard combines Cornell University–originated research with purpose-built hardware and software for per-tree fruit counting and tracking. The company’s goal is to help orchard operators improve crop yield and quality through data-driven farming, supported by direct sales or service contracts.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Large fruit growers already use the system, supporting enterprise expansion.
  • Broadening from apples and grapes into other specialty crops expands the addressable market.
  • The $22M Series A extends runway for product development and commercial scale-up.

What critics are saying

  • John Deere and other OEMs can bundle native crop analytics into tractors.
  • Hardware-dependent capture fails when mounts, vehicles, or field uptime break during peak season.
  • New crop classes can expose model weaknesses and slow expansion beyond apples and grapes.

What makes Orchard unique

  • Vehicle-mounted AI cameras fit existing orchard workflows without new infrastructure.
  • Computer vision tracks fruit size, color, and health across every tree.
  • Orchard OS centralizes field data into actionable thinning, pruning, and spraying recommendations.
