Charli XCX invests in consumer tech brand Nothing as first Global Brand Ambassador

Nothing, the consumer tech brand, has announced Charli XCX as its latest investor and first Global Brand Ambassador. The partnership goes beyond a traditional endorsement, with Charli investing in the company and helping shape future products. Nothing co-founder Carl Pei stated that the tech industry has become "quieter, more minimal, more monotonous", whilst Charli has taken pop music in the opposite direction. Charli XCX praised Nothing's ethos of prioritising creatives and its headphone design and sound quality. The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia are also investors in Nothing. Founded in 2020, the company produces smartphones, ChatGPT-integrated over-ear headphones and earbuds. Further details about the collaboration are expected to follow.

Nothing founder warns memory chip prices double as AI giants drive up gadget costs

Nothing founder Carl Pei has warned that Britons face higher gadget prices due to a global microchip shortage driven by AI companies. The UK-headquartered phone maker, valued at $1.3 billion, has seen memory chip costs more than double over the past year. Memory chips now account for 40% of Nothing's phone manufacturing costs, up from 15% previously. Silicon Valley giants have been absorbing chip production capacity for AI applications, pushing up prices across the consumer electronics industry. Ram chip contract prices nearly doubled in the first quarter, rising as much as 95%, according to TrendForce. Founded in 2020, Nothing has raised over $450 million from investors, including $200 million last year. The company announced its latest handsets, the Phone (4a) starting at £349 and Phone (4a) Pro at £499.

Nothing launches Phone (4a) series with enhanced Glyph lights, new colours, and $464 starting price

London-based smartphone maker Nothing has launched two mid-range devices, the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro, alongside new headphones, as it attempts to differentiate itself in what CEO Carl Pei calls an increasingly "boring" market. The phones introduce brighter colour options including pink and blue, whilst retaining Nothing's transparent design and upgraded Glyph lighting system. The Phone (4a) features a 6.78-inch display and Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, whilst the Pro model offers a 6.83-inch screen with 144Hz refresh rate and Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset. Both devices include 50MP periscope telephoto cameras and 5,400mAh batteries with 50W fast charging. The Phone (4a) starts at £349, whilst the Pro model retails from £499. Pei said Nothing aims to become IPO-ready by 2028.

Nothing launches Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro, but only $499 Pro model coming to US

Nothing has announced the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro at a London event, but only the Pro model will be sold in the US. The company cited expected market performance for its decision to limit US availability. The Phone (4a) costs £349 and launches 13 March, whilst the Phone (4a) Pro starts at $499 and launches exclusively through Amazon on 27 March, matching Google's Pixel 10a pricing. Nothing remains without US carrier partnerships, which typically drive American smartphone sales. The Phone (4a) Pro features a redesigned camera module with harder, more wear-resistant glass and retains Nothing's distinctive Glyph Matrix design. Nothing is expanding retail presence globally with new stores planned for Tokyo and New York City. The company also unveiled the Headphone (a) at $199.
