Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service and perform skilled specimen collections while ensuring the validity and integrity of clinical specimens.
  • Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups.
  • Execute doctors’ orders correctly and perform special specimen handling for esoteric testing, including handling and processing legal specimens.
  • Perform phlebotomy techniques professionally and present the laboratory positively to the public.
  • Perform routine venipuncture properly.
  • Perform micro-collection and other special collection techniques correctly.
  • Select phlebotomy techniques according to the patient’s condition.
  • Follow safety guidelines to protect patients and staff.
  • Coordinate special collections with other departments.
  • Deliver clinical specimens efficiently and effectively to the laboratory.
  • Operate the centrifuge properly and apply techniques according to specimen requirements.
  • Process outpatients in a timely manner.
  • Code laboratory orders from the nursing unit into the laboratory information system with no more than one error per month.
  • Perform effectively and efficiently in complex emergency situations such as multiple-trauma or disaster events.
  • Interact with other departments to resolve identified problems with clinical specimens.
  • Ensure the integrity of submitted clinical specimens.
  • Complete detailed paperwork for studies and investigational testing.
  • Maintain quality assurance and quality control logs for the Phlebotomy and Specimen Processing Departments.
  • Prioritize work to meet turnaround requirements established by Laboratory Administration.
  • Check computer files and patient lists to support workflow and timely sample collection, resolving problems or routing them to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform drug-screen collections accurately while following chain-of-custody protocols.
  • Maintain professional growth through continuing education and annual competency assessments.
  • Assist in training new phlebotomy employees or students by demonstrating proper collection techniques and assisting with venipuncture when needed.
  • Use Quest tools in the department.
  • Promote patient, visitor, and staff safety and manage hazards that may lead to injury or harm.
  • Meet productivity expectations.
  • Ensure department compliance with regulatory, DNV, mandatory education, and similar requirements.
  • Protect and limit access to protected health information and electronic protected health information to the minimum necessary for job functions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Phlebotomy certification through an approved certification organization such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology, National Phlebotomy Association, American Medical Technologist, National Performance Specialist, or National Healthcareer Association is preferred.
  • Previous laboratory experience as a laboratory assistant is preferred.

Sep 24, 2026, 02:58 ET LINKÖPING, Sweden, Sept. 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - International medical imaging IT and cybersecurity company Sectra (STO: SECT B) announces that Northeast Georgia Medical Center has gone live with Sectra's enterprise imaging solution as a cloud service, Sectra One Cloud, initially deploying the modules for radiology, breast imaging, and cardiology. By bringing imaging from multiple specialties into a single platform, clinicians can access and share patient studies more easily, enabling faster, better-coordinated care for the patients and communities the hospital serves. The nonprofit health system operates five Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) campuses across northeast Georgia. As a regional tertiary referral center, NGMC Gainesville provides emergency, surgical, and specialized care to a population of more than 1.5 million people across 19 counties. With Sectra One Cloud, the hospital benefits from a cloud solution fully managed by Sectra, which means Sectra assumes responsibility for all system operation, maintenance, and support. This includes continuous monitoring, optimization, and upgrades, which helps reduce operational risk and supports high availability, while the solution's modular design allows the health system to scale into additional specialties over time. Following a five-year contract, Northeast Georgia Medical Center went live with Sectra One Cloud in the fourth quarter of Sectra's 2025/2026 fiscal year, with an expected annual imaging volume of around 850,000 exams. The hospital has initially deployed the modules for radiology, breast imaging, and cardiology. NGHS chief clinical officer named a Top leader nationally. Thursday, September 17th, 2026 Recognized nationally as a leader whose work and influence have continued to grow and make an impact over time, Vik Reddy, MD, Northeast Georgia Health System's (NGHS) chief clinical officer, was recently named one of Promena's Top 100 Elite Trailblazers of Impact for 2026.
