Requirements
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrates written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Requires strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform the stated physical activities, including frequent bending, keying, reaching, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; constant hearing, seeing, speaking, and standing; and occasional climbing, kneeling, and overhead reaching.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain and prepare specimens for analysis and perform indicated screening tests under the direct supervision of a medical technologist or medical laboratory technician.
  • Collect venous and capillary blood samples using techniques including syringe collection, heel sticks, venipuncture, and fingersticks.
  • Receive, process, and distribute laboratory specimens; distribute departmental paperwork; and stock supplies as needed.
  • Provide phlebotomy care appropriate to infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Verify patient identification at the bedside, provide patient instructions when needed, and take safety precautions when handling specimens and collecting blood.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
  • Perform assigned tasks within the scope of training, including order entry in the laboratory information system, filing results, scanning results into CPSI and ECW, and recording temperature checks.
  • Disinfect work areas and phlebotomy trays.
  • Check inventory of phlebotomy and collection supplies.
  • File paperwork according to laboratory procedures and maintain laboratory records for two years.
  • Maintain professional dress and comply with Chambers Health appearance standards.
  • Provide friendly, efficient, and positive customer service to patients, clients, guests, and coworkers.
  • Use the Service Excellence model when interacting with patients, clients, and guests.
  • Maintain professional growth and competence by completing annual hospital and departmental training commitments.
  • Attend mandatory in-service and educational programs appropriate to departmental goals and needs.
  • Follow established systems and training programs to provide a safe environment.
  • Comply with Chambers Health standards of operation and Business Conduct Policy.
  • Maintain records and reports to support compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and codes.
  • Comply with applicable civil rights, age discrimination, and disability regulations.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the manager.
