Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in offensive security, penetration testing, red teaming, security engineering, solutions engineering, or technical security consulting.
  • Strong hands-on understanding of modern vulnerability classes across web applications, cloud, application programming interfaces, and infrastructure.
  • Experience running technical security engagements and communicating findings to customers.
  • Strong programming or scripting skills, ideally with Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C/C++.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex customer environments across networking, authentication, cloud infrastructure, and application architectures.
  • Ability to work effectively with deeply technical engineers and security executives in customer-facing contexts.
  • Ability to operate independently and take ownership of ambiguous technical problems.
  • Strong understanding of offensive security methodology and attacker tradecraft.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Responsibilities
  • Run end-to-end autonomous penetration-testing engagements for customers using Apex and the Pensar platform.
  • Configure engagements around customer applications, infrastructure, attack surfaces, and security objectives.
  • Curate, triage, validate, and contextualize autonomous findings before presenting them to customers.
  • Investigate exploitation paths and agent behavior to understand how and why findings were discovered.
  • Deliver prioritized findings and walk customers through vulnerabilities, exploitation paths, business impact, and remediation.
  • Act as a technical security partner throughout onboarding, engagements, and ongoing usage.
  • Help customers understand how autonomous penetration testing fits into their broader security program.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed for kickoffs, technical workshops, readouts, and on-site engagements.
  • Deploy and configure the Pensar platform inside complex customer environments.
  • Own technical onboarding, including integrations, authentication, networking, workflows, and environment configuration.
  • Work directly with customer security, infrastructure, and engineering teams to troubleshoot deployment challenges.
  • Design solutions for customer environments that do not fit predefined workflows.
  • Build scripts, integrations, tooling, and automation where necessary to make deployments successful.
  • Help establish repeatable deployment patterns and best practices across enterprise environments.
  • Apply hands-on offensive security expertise across web applications, application programming interfaces, cloud infrastructure, networks, and emerging artificial-intelligence and large-language-model attack surfaces.
  • Understand and investigate autonomous offensive security agent behavior against real systems.
  • Identify agent failures, stalled processes, false positives, and missed attack paths, and work with engineering and research to improve them.
  • Develop workflows, tooling, prompts, techniques, and automation that improve autonomous penetration-testing outcomes.
  • Track emerging attacker tradecraft and vulnerability classes and translate them into capabilities within Apex and Pensar.
  • Contribute technical expertise to the continued development of autonomous offensive security systems.
  • Translate customer and engagement experience into recommendations for the product roadmap.
  • Partner with engineering and product on capabilities, user experience, integrations, and automation that improve autonomous penetration testing.
  • Identify recurring customer problems that should become product capabilities.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews focused on real-world security workflows and customer environments.
  • Help shape Apex's direction as an open-source project alongside the Pensar platform.
  • Serve as a feedback loop between customers and the teams building Pensar.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C/C++.
  • Professional development through conferences, training, and certifications.
  • Publishing security research and presenting at industry conferences.

Pensar provides a continuous penetration testing platform called Apex that integrates into the software development lifecycle to identify, exploit, and remediate security vulnerabilities across deployments from development to staging. It uses AI agents and a dynamic threat model based on a client’s business logic to find novel attack paths rather than replaying known patterns. A key feature is auto-remediation: confirmed vulnerabilities are patched via a pull request for developers to review and merge. The goal is to help enterprises accelerate secure software delivery by embedding proactive security into CI/CD, with support for both blackbox and whitebox testing and reduced false positives.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Pensar closed a seed round in 2026 led by Basis Set Ventures.
  • The 2026 product launch targets every deploy, matching faster AI-generated code release cycles.
  • Pensar's reports and human-reviewed sign-off directly address compliance workflows buyers already fund.

What critics are saying

  • Pensar competes against Horizon3 NodeZero, Pentera, NetSPI, and Bishop Fox in 2026.
  • Open-source Apex lowers switching costs and compresses Pensar's hosted-platform pricing power.
  • If enterprises distrust autonomous exploit agents, sales stall before Pensar reaches durable scale.

What makes Pensar unique

  • Pensar released Apex on 2026-03-16 for continuous AI offensive testing in CI.
  • Apex ships verified exploit chains and patch pull requests, not scan-only findings.
  • Pensar offers blackbox and whitebox pentesting with compliance-ready reports for SOC 2 audits.
