Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • One year of experience within an academic setting is required.
  • Knowledge and application of principles and ethics associated with developmental academic advising.
  • Knowledge of office practices and methods and of university electronic programs and data systems.
  • Knowledge of university programs, policies, and practices.
  • Ability to attend meetings, workshops, and training to keep abreast of university and function changes.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and verify information accurately.
  • Ability to coordinate work with other employees, providing direct instruction or supervision as assigned.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.
  • Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled University work hours is required.
  • Ability to provide documents establishing proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States is required.
  • Employees must adhere to federal and state information security and privacy regulations and University policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Advise undergraduate, graduate, transfer, and continuing students individually and in groups on academic programs.
  • Provide advising for a designated college and, when needed, for other University students.
  • Advise students on meeting readiness requirements, including tests and developmental work.
  • Guide students in using university resources and academic planning to enhance retention and graduation.
  • Support first-generation students and special populations in reaching their goals.
  • Analyze and process degree plans, grade change forms, and other required forms.
  • Assist students in understanding state and University rules for readiness assessment, course repetition, credit limits, and related requirements for timely graduation.
  • Use computer software and university data systems to review and update student files, including TSI compliance, Student Planning, Colleague, and G-Media.
  • Perform electronic updates and removals of registration blocks in the university data system and review academic records through electronic systems.
  • Maintain advising files, electronic records, and other advising records for functional continuity.
  • Participate in orientations, open houses, and other recruitment and retention activities.
  • Attend regular training and development sessions.
  • Serve on campus committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain contact with academic components to clarify and document departmental expectations.
  • Support retention efforts and promote working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Participate in training workshops for faculty advisors.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • Travel as required.
  • Maintain a safe and discrimination-free work environment and report unsafe work conditions, near-miss incidents, and injuries or accidents as required.
