Requirements
  • The candidate must hold current appropriate state licensure and meet practice requirements in all states employed.
  • The candidate must hold or successfully complete current cardiopulmonary resuscitation Basic Life Support certification.
  • The role requires at least 2 years of nephrology nursing experience as a registered nurse within the last 2 years.
  • The position requires the ability to provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and occasional movement of equipment up to 200 pounds and chemical or water solutions up to 30 pounds.
  • The candidate must complete the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
  • The position requires participation in an on-call rotation and may include night, weekend, and holiday work.
  • The position requires travel to training or meeting sites and between assigned facilities.
Responsibilities
  • The registered nurse provides and coordinates clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, for an assigned group of patients.
  • The nurse performs ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment, documents it in the medical record, modifies treatment plans as indicated, and notifies appropriate clinical personnel.
  • The nurse assesses and documents patient and family learning needs and provides initial and ongoing education.
  • The nurse recognizes abnormal patient-status findings and reports or collaborates with appropriate health team members.
  • The nurse directs and provides safe, effective patient care for assigned patients according to prescribed modality-specific treatment procedures.
  • The nurse assesses daily patient-care needs and collaborates with direct and ancillary patient-care staff.
  • The nurse coordinates communication with Fresenius Kidney Care and non-Fresenius dialysis providers and contracted facility personnel to provide continuity of care.
  • The nurse implements, administers, monitors, and documents patients' responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions and reports adverse reactions appropriately.
  • The nurse administers prescribed medications and documents medical justification and effectiveness.
  • The nurse initiates and assists with emergency response measures.
  • The nurse provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, and role modeling for new and incumbent employees.
  • The nurse may provide specialized nursing-care instructions to hospital or facility staff as contractually stipulated.
  • The nurse may assist in an outpatient facility as needed.
  • The nurse may serve as a preceptor to new employees.
  • The nurse completes Clinical Advancement Program requirements to maintain or advance status.
  • The nurse may be assigned other duties by the Supervisor.
  • After completing required education and modality-specific training and obtaining 6 months of acute dialysis RN experience, the nurse may provide designated oversight of Patient Care Technicians, Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurses, and Registered Nurses as Nurse in Charge.
