Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A current Class D driver's license is required.
  • The ability to obtain a Department of Transportation Medical Card if hired is required.
  • The employee must be able to read and write.
  • The employee must meet the physical, medical, and mobility requirements for operating a commercial vehicle.
  • The employee must be able to lift and move heavy items and bend, squat, twist, and work in confined spaces as necessary for inspections and repairs.
  • The employee must be available to work evenings and weekends as required and for snow removal when required.
  • The employee must be able to communicate effectively with company personnel, public agency personnel, vendors, and the general public.
  • The employee must be able to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to bus fumes, oils and grease, accident-site and traffic hazards, hazardous materials, and occasional solo work at night.
Responsibilities
  • Report to the garage on time and pre-inspect tools and equipment before beginning work.
  • Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of the facility.
  • Drive buses and other company vehicles safely and defensively; employees without a commercial driver's license may drive buses only on company property.
  • Inspect, fuel, clean, and add fluids to buses as they come off route or as required by maintenance procedures and policies.
  • Inspect, fuel, clean, and add fluids to other company vehicles and equipment as necessary or directed.
  • Coordinate with dispatchers and technicians to ensure buses are available for routes.
  • Report unusual occurrences to the Maintenance Manager when they occur and complete an incident or accident report for each occurrence.
  • Report mechanical or safety deficiencies to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Inspect and maintain shelters, signs, and other bus-stop property for cleanliness, damage, vandalism, and snow removal, and post schedules at bus stops as needed.
  • Report consistent damage to bus-stop property to the Operations Manager.
  • Assist with facility and grounds maintenance, including painting, cleaning, landscaping, and basic building repair.
  • Assist with installing new bus-stop signs, shelters, and other stop improvements.
  • Complete required paperwork during the shift.
  • Run errands, including picking up parts and delivering mail and supplies between the Franklin Transit Management and Franklin Regional Transit Authority offices.
Desired Qualifications
  • Custodial and maintenance experience is preferred.
