About the company

Rypples is an ocean-focused impact investor that uses its own balance sheet to fund early-stage ventures working on sustainable ocean resources. It targets system-wide solutions in ocean health, ecosystems, blue foods, and maritime data, providing capital and strategic guidance to help startups reach product-market fit and scale. What sets Rypples apart is its sector focus on the ocean, its use of capital from its own balance sheet rather than third-party funds, and its emphasis on holistic, ecosystem-wide solutions with a shared sustainability vision. The firm aims to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world by catalyzing meaningful change in how ocean resources are managed and utilized.

What believers are saying

  • Vessev raised $32.6 million in August 2026, with Rypples joining Blackbird and GD1.
  • Rypples secured founder visibility at BEFF 2026 in Monaco, strengthening dealflow access.
  • Recent hiring for a Principal signals expansion from founder-led investing into a broader platform.

What critics are saying

  • Rypples still reports only one employee, limiting sourcing, diligence, and portfolio support capacity.
  • Its platform depends on portfolio exits; Vessev’s US rollout faces manufacturing and adoption risk through 2027.
  • Ocean-tech niches remain crowded, and a weak first institutional portfolio would damage fundraising credibility.

What makes Rypples unique

  • Rypples uses permanent capital from founders’ balance sheet, not a traditional fund structure.
  • Co-founders Frederic Trinel and Jerome Ternynck bring unicorn-operator experience to ocean ventures.
  • It targets emerging product-market fit across ocean health, blue foods, maritime, and data.
