Requirements
  • Registered Nurses working in specialty areas must meet the requirements established by the applicable specialty discipline.
  • A current New Hampshire Registered Nurse license is required.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute de-escalation training is required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Staff must maintain active nursing licensure and certifications required for the department.
Responsibilities
  • Use established nursing standards and policies when designing patient care in accordance with New Hampshire Board of Nursing requirements, state and local requirements, and American Nurses Association guidelines.
  • Establish and measure general and unit-specific competencies in collaboration with clinical education, and provide opportunities for staff members to achieve required competencies.
  • Ensure staff complete all onboarding requirements.
  • Chair nursing-related committees and councils.
  • Provide mentorship for staff enrolled in clinical advancement.
  • Use an electronic medical record.
  • Establish an environment that promotes ongoing clinical research, inquiry, and expansion of the clinical nursing knowledge base, using evidence for best practice.
  • Facilitate recruitment activities, interviews, and candidate selection, including staff involvement in the interview process.
  • Promote continuous improvement through proactive department auditing and Process Improvement Plan requirements, and report results to committees focused on improved quality outcomes.
  • Identify personnel issues and consult with the human resources department or appropriate manager or director.
  • Resolve issues appropriately and complete necessary documentation.
  • Communicate information in a timely manner and encourage early, direct input from stakeholders in decision-making.
  • Facilitate Unit Advisory Committee activities addressing staff issues within the unit or department and promote shared governance.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Clinical Resource Nurse's work performance regarding patient care and staff development.
  • Ensure timely and effective evaluations of all unit personnel.
  • Ensure timely completion of employee career interviews.
  • Participate in routine leadership rounding with patients and staff.
  • Participate in Environment of Care rounds and report issues for correction.
  • Act as a resource for nursing care areas when acuity and census exceed resource availability.
  • Monitor and ensure staff compliance with mandatory certifications and education requirements.
  • Identify and implement unit goals.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss and suggest strategies for improving the patient care environment.
  • Disseminate outcomes of nurse-driven process improvement initiatives and report them to the quality council.
  • Provide a just-culture environment.
  • Respond to safety and risk events in a timely manner.
  • Meet requirements of outside regulating agencies, including DNV and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, as appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Monitor and disseminate patient and staff satisfaction scores to the unit, focusing on achieving a 75th-percentile ranking.
  • Facilitate staff education on regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure staff are competent in providing culturally diverse care.
  • Attend leadership training sessions offered by the Employee Experience Department.
  • Monitor unit productivity daily and flex staff to achieve 98% or better.
  • Evaluate staffing patterns annually to meet patient-care needs and formulate accurate operating and capital budgets.
  • Operate within budgeted full-time equivalents and maintain position control.
  • Identify reasons for variances and develop action plans.
  • Ensure the unit schedule is posted on time with adequate staffing to support department needs.
  • Promote certification and membership in a professional organization.
  • Complete reviews of assigned policies, provide edits when due, and follow the approval process.
  • Complete annual reviews of assigned contracts, including required assessments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certification in the specialty or nursing leadership is preferred.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred or must be obtained before completing orientation.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is preferred, with required completion within 60 days of hire for applicable units.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is preferred, with required completion within 60 days of hire for Maternal Child Health and Emergency Department units.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is preferred, with required completion within 60 days of hire for Emergency Department units.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course certification is preferred, with required completion within one year of hire for the Emergency Department.
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation certification is preferred, with required completion within one year of hire for the Intensive Care Unit, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, and Operating Room.
  • Membership in a professional organization is preferred.
  • An Associate of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is strongly preferred.
  • A Master of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
